7 Day EcoCamp W Trek - Day Three
Torres del Paine, Chile
Today is a challenging yet rewarding trek to the Valle Frances (French Valley), along a steep trail that leads to the very heart of the Paine Massif.
This is an excellent walking day, set to the group's trekking rhythm. A fast-paced walk will lead you from the starting point to the hanging bridge over the French River, located at the foot of the southeastern face of the Massif, where you'll be treated to glorious sweeping views of the valley.
Continue your ascent towards the upper section of the valley where you'll be able to witness the impressive extent of the valley's geological formations; spot the Hoja (Blade), the Máscara (Mask), the Espada (Sword), the Catedral (Cathedral), the Aleta de Tiburón (Shark’s Fin) and the magnificent Fortaleza (Fortress).
Following a steep trek up, pause for a picnic and relax a while to soak up the view. Today's trek will slowly draw to a close as you descend through a terrain of mixed grassland and light forest leading to Refugio Paine Grande.
N.B. An optional trek to Mirador Britanico is also available.
