Maui is a year round destination with a tropical climate, with the very best months being April to September. Temperatures are high throughout the year but never excessive, as humidity levels are manageable. There is a rainy season from December to March which is also ironically, the tourism high season, when the scenery is at its most lush and long, hot days break up the rainy spells.

The multi-award-winning Four Seasons Maui offers informal elegance, sublime views, world-class facilities and fabulous pampering for both families and honeymooners, all set on a glorious beach on Maui’s west coast.
Overlooking a beautiful crescent shaped white sand beach, safe for swimming and snorkelling, on Maui's sunnier side, the Four Seasons Maui is a full service luxury resort, with an air of relaxed elegance. The hotel is the perfect destination for a special honeymoon or for families with children of any age.
While the hotel is a big draw for A-list celebrities, especially during the Maui Film Festival in June, the attentive service will make everyone feel a star here. Little touches and attention to detail, from the welcome orchid lei to the twice-daily turndown, and a wide range of complimentary services and activities, set the Four Seasons Maui apart from most other Hawaiian properties.
The hotel’s 380 spacious rooms and suites, located in a U-shaped building fronting the ocean, are decorated in tones of blue, coral, and gold, with koa wood furniture, luxury bedding and deep soaking tubs with L'Occitane bath amenities. Each room has the facilities you might expect from a serious five-star property, and the outdoor terraces, nearly all with ocean views, are great for watching sunsets year round and, in winter, migrating humpback whales.
The Spa at Four Seasons is one of the island’s best, with 16 indoor treatment rooms and three outdoor thatched-roof hales with spectacular views of the Pacific, and the quality and diversity of treatments, from massages to body wraps and the amazing cocoon beds, is fabulous.
Dining is superb, and can either be open air, overlooking Wailea beach at Ferraro’s, which features Northern Italian cuisine; at Spago, a fun place great for cocktails surrounded by colourful wallpaper murals of giant sea anemones; or at Duo, a contemporary restaurant with an open kitchen concept which serves an outstanding breakfast buffet, and grilled steak and seafood in the evening.
The white sand beach is excellent and safe for swimming, and the beach concierge can arrange complimentary activities such as snorkelling, an outrigger canoe ride, kayaking and much more. Scuba diving (including PADI certification) can also be organised. Away from the beach, there are two lit tennis courts and a tennis clinic, a putting green, croquet, volleyball, and daily fitness classes.
The Four Seasons Maui is one of Hawaii’s most child-friendly resorts with a daily kids’ club available for children from 5-12 years. There's a complete activities programme as well as other perks such as milk and cookies on arrival, kids' menus in all restaurants, infant gear and a games room.
If you can bear to drag yourself away, the nearby resort of Wailea offers three championship golf courses, an 11-court tennis centre and high-end shops, and the resort’s complimentary shuttle will take you there and back.
The majority of the five-star Resort’s 380 luxury guest rooms and suites feature stunning views of the Pacific Ocean that can be enjoyed from private verandas or roofed patios. Every room has a fresh take on modern luxury and features specially commissioned local artwork. Technological enhancements are as you would expect, each room features large flat-screen televisions, docking stations and clock radios with MP3 adapters, DVD players with photo-card readers and high-speed internet access.
Four Seasons Resort Maui is a wonderful base for a family holiday, the hotel goes out of its way to make younger guests welcome and the concierge is always close to hand to make reservations for a family dinner, offer suggestions for outings or help arrange a babysitter.
The hotel can provide complimentary baby and children’s toiletries, child sized robes, children's menus, items to child-proof guest rooms, furnishing such as high chairs, cribs and roll-away beds and complementary use of the DVD library.
The Four Seasons Maui offers guests a personalised 24-hour concierge service, multi-lingual staff, 24-hour in-room dining, laundry and dry cleaning service, car rental, gift shop and salon service. In room expect complementary newspapers and tea and coffee and wireless high-speed internet.
Warm tropical air enhances the dining experience at the Resort’s indoor and outdoor restaurants, which include the acclaimed Spago – the brand of celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck – and DUO, an exciting addition to Maui’s culinary scene. Using only the freshest ingredients, dishes range from grilled mahi mahi to Japanese Kobe beef, accompanied by premium vintages and classic Hawaiian cocktails.
The Serenity Pool's infinity-edge enjoys panoramic ocean views and is highlighted by shimmering glass mosaic tiles and lush tropical gardens. The large Fountain Pool has a whirlpool at each end and a central fountain, whilst the free-form lagoon pool features a naturalistic waterfall, a small slide and a shallow end for children. Pool attendants provide ice water, chilled towels, Evian water spritz and refreshing snacks.
Generously furnished with state-of-the-art fitness equipment, the Fitness Centre also has an aerobics room with hardwood floors hosts a wide range of daily fitness classes, and a canopied area is designated for outdoor cardiovascular training.
Located on the lower lobby level next to the library, the games room is the perfect family gathering place. Watch sporting events on the big-screen television or play board games, table shuffleboard, billiards and ping-pong. Three video gaming systems (Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) are available with a variety of games.
There are a total of five crescent-shaped beaches in the Wailea resort community. Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is located on Wailea Beach, which is 2,100 feet (640 metres) long. Take advantage of the manicured beach, and relax on complimentary beach chairs and towels under umbrellas or casabella shades, while enjoying the ice water and soothing spritzes offered by Four Seasons staff.
Enjoy the warm waters and learn Hawaiian paddling techniques in the outrigger canoe programme while journeying through the magnificent reef system near the Resort, or snorkel or scuba dive in nearby reefs, day or night, or get certified during your stay.
Each year from December to April, humpback whales travel from the Arctic to Hawaii looking for the shelter of leeward shores, quiet bays and warm waters. Guests visiting Maui during this time have the opportunity to watch the whales play.
The Wailea Golf Club, whose championship Gold, Emerald and Blue courses boast breathtaking ocean views from every hole and dozens of prestigious award, is open to guests of the Four Seasons.
Beach volley ball and beach games and a golf putting green, tennis courts and daily fitness classes are on offer. With a little notice, helicopter tours, horse riding, scenic waterfall hikes and wildlife tours can also be arranged.

As with every Four Seasons, the service is industry leading and there is so much added value when considering everything that is included. You can simply walk out of your room, pick up a bottle of water, a towel, sun cream and snorkelling gear, head to their private beach to see the array of aquatic life that frequent the bay and then retreat to a poolside cabana to relax, at no extra cost. That said, the service and inclusions are in addition to an already amazing resort, which manages to balance a plethora of facilities with a tranquil, contemporary and truly luxurious character.

It's all about location here and if there's a spot to be on on Wailea beach, this is it. Facing West for perfect sunsets and a glorious stretch of soft golden sandy beach and sea ideal for swimming in, it's just the ideal spot to be in. The Four Seasons is big, this is no boutique hotel, and it's also on a fairly small footprint which can sometimes make it feel a little on the cramped side, especially on busy days around the pool. Having said that, it's got everything you could want for a family holiday. Three pools including one dedicated to families, complimentary poolside cabanas which are ideal if one of the children (or parents for that matter) wants an afternoon nap, you can just close the curtains around and the rest of the family can continue to enjoy the pool. There's even an adults only pool for those wanting a little more tranquility. It can get a little noisy as well during the day with the bustle of the resort but if this is something you're okay with, this place is great. From the restaurant options (a fabulous buffet breakfast and Wolfgang Puck's Spago to name a few) through to the full spa, gym and fitness facilities, the beachside walk that runs all the way along the Wailea beaches and perfect for evening strolls or morning walks through to the Kids for All Seasons club, complimentary for children and a fun place to be, this place just sums up a family holiday. All the rooms and suites have recently been refurbished and are looking fresh and bright, the sofas on the balconies are a lovely touch although don't expect privacy, most balconies are very overlooked. So all in all, it's a good solid Four Seasons, although it's location does mean a less exclusive and busier experience than you may encounter in other Four Seasons resorts around the world.
