Today, you will have the unique opportunity to participate in a private cultural cooking experience. Your efforts will directly support a local community organization, Men of PA`A, whose workforce development initiatives provide employment opportunities for at-risk community members in cultural tourism.
Upon arrival at a scenic, private farm, you will be greeted by a local cultural practitioner. After a brief introduction and cultural orientation, you will begin to gather the materials and build your own imu (underground oven). You will work alongside local community members who will regale you with invaluable cultural insight about the history of this unique cooking style. Your hard work will be rewarded with a traditional, shared meal: kalua pork, chicken, and local produce from the farm. Your delectable meal will be accompanied by Hawaiian storytelling, lei making, and the unique opportunity to talk story with cultural practitioners.
