Bergama: History & Architectures of Pergamon
Bergama is one of the finest archaeological sites in Turkey. Once the capital of the East Roman Empire, the ancient city of Pergamon where Bergama is now located was once a great centre of culture for the Romans. It was home to the second largest library in the ancient world, the steep Theatre of Anatolia, the monumental Altar of Zeus, and the Roman Medical Center ruins of Asclepion. Ascend the Acropolis by cable car, then walk back down via the gymnasium situated on the lower terraces of the lower Agora.
