Peninsula Encounter - Full Day Wildlife Tour and Cruise (Shared)
Dunedin, Central Otago and the Southern Lakes, New Zealand
A must for wildlife enthusiasts, and birders in particular, this full-day private tour takes in Yellow-eyed Penguins, Hooker’s Sea Lions, Blue Penguins, Albatross and other seabirds from a cruise, beach and observation hides.
With a variety of settings, this experience is an unrivalled opportunity to observe some of New Zealand’s iconic wildlife up close. While Penguins, Sea Lions and Albatross are the main sightings, you may also spot a further 25-30 estuarine and marine bird species throughout the day as you explore the coastal hillside, beaches and birdlife centres.
In addition to the beaches and strategically placed observation hides, your knowledgeable guide will take you to the Royal Albatross Centre at Taiaroa Headland to catch sight of the largest sea bird in its nesting area at Taiaroa Head. A one-hour cruise on the ‘Monarch’ from Weller’s Rock jetty then takes you to the Albatross Colony where you can view these and other seabirds.
