Manitoba has a typically dry climate with very distinct seasons that have sharp temperature changes. During the winter months, temperatures can be as low as -40 degrees celsius, and in the summer months, temperatures of 38 degrees celsius are not uncommon. The snow is deeper than 1cm for over 130 days of the year, so the region is known for its long winter and snowy conditions. Despite the coldness, skies are often completely clear and due to very low levels of pollution, stargazing and northern lights viewing are excellent nighttime activities.

Itinerary

A truly incredible tour, the Ultimate Polar Bear Adventure takes you out to the tundra to explore and experience some of the most magnificent wildlife to roam this area.

  1. Days 1-2: Manitoba

Arrive into Winnipeg and transfer to Inn at the Forks, a modern boutique hotel for your first night on your Ultimate Polar Bear Adventure.

Accommodation: Inn at the Forks (1 night)

  2. Days 2-5: Manitoba

Your early morning private charter flight shall transfer you to Churchill - ‘Polar Bear Capital of the World’ and a wilderness which is only accessible by boat, plane or train.  Upon arrival in the 950 populated village, you’ll take a guided tour through Churchill, located on the shores of Hudson Bay at the mouth of the Churchill River.  The eco-regions around this locality encourage a wealth of Artic wildlife, including, beluga whales, polar bear, seals and waterfowl.

Lazy Bear Lodge is your accommodation for the next three nights, Manitoba’s largest log cabin constructed from reclaimed fire-killed logs.  Before dinner on your first evening enjoy a presentation about the culture of the First Nations and relax in front of the warm stone fireplace, crafted from a 20,000-pound block of stone and mortar. Your first full day excursion in aboard a specially designed arctic tundra vehicle, transporting you into the heart of bear country for a day searching for the magnificent polar bears.  Viewing in this area is best in autumn when the bears migrate from inland areas to Churchill in search of food, creating the optimum setting for viewing the artic wildlife in their natural habitat from the safety of your tundra vehicle. The following morning is spent on a Cultural and Heritage Tour of Churchill, including visits to the Polar Bear Jail and historic Cape Merry.  Later that day you’ll go on an exhilarating Dog Mushing experience on sleds as the dog run over the terrain, the its back to the warmth for local berry jam, fresh bannock, hot chocolate and tales of the area from your local guides.

Accommodation: Lazy Bear Lodge (3 nights)

  3. Days 5-6: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Before departing Churchill, you will go on your final tundra artic excursion for a final chance to explore the artic plains.  Your private charter flight will bring you back to Winnipeg for the evening at the hotel before connecting to your international flight home the next day.

Accommodation: Hilton Winnipeg Airport Suites (1 night)
