Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The typical Mediterranean climate of Provence and the Cote d'Azur has long drawn visitors here. Late Spring brings warm temperatures that can reach nearly 30C by July. Sunshine is abundant, with nearly 12 hours a day in mid-summer. The mistral wind can bring a cooler wind in early Spring, but this part of the Riviera is more protected. July is the driest month, and rain showers tend to be infrequent.

Visiting Chamonix in summer provides the opportunity to appreciate the sheer breadth of beauty that the Alps offers. Visually stunning, the white snow capped peaks of the Mont Blanc mountain range contrast beautifully with the lush green pastures below, brimming with colorful alpine flowers. Warmer days but cooler nights provide an all round pleasant climate, suitable for everyone.

Itinerary

This two week combination has all the ingredients for a perfect family vacation combining rest and relaxation in a Scott Dunn villa in the South of France followed by a week of family adventures and fresh mountain air in Chamonix in the French Alps.

  1. Days 1-7: Scott Dunn Villa, South of France

You can begin to relax and unwind the moment you arrive at your Scott Dunn villa in the South of France as our team will be on hand to look after your every need. Each of our villas comes with a highly skilled team of staff; a chef to prepare delicious meals for you, a host to serve you drinks and ensure that your vacations is relaxing as possible and finally, a the choice of a nanny to keep the kids entertained so you can just relax. Your villa will have its own private pool so you can swim when you want or simply curl up on a sun lounger and finish your book! This is real R&R and a great way to ease your way into your vacation.

Days will be spent relaxing by the pool, venturing out to explore the local area, mooching through the markets whilst the children are busy having fun and being looked after by our nanny.

Accommodation: Bastide des Virettes (7 nights)

  2. Days 8-13: Chamonix Alpine Summer, France

After a week in your villa, pick up your hire car and make your way North, on a scenic drive through South East France, through the Aosta Valley in Italy, through the Mont Blanc tunnel to Chamonix. This Alpine town has a bustling atmosphere during the summer months, as professional climbers and tourists rub shoulders and enjoy the stunning surroundings.

There are some great hotel options in Chamonix, from the beautiful five star Hotel Mont Blanc with its gorgeous outdoor pool, to the family-friendly Heliopic Hotel & Spa with its prime location at the foot of the Aiguille du Midi lift.

The pace of your vacation will pick up once you arrive in Chamonix as this is the time to try a host of different activities, on the mountain, on the water or even in the air. Explore the mountains on foot with a private guide, ride the rapids white water rafting, take to the skies paragliding or just enjoy the abundance of fresh, mountain air and take in your stunning surroundings. Chamonix lies at the foot of Mont Blanc, Europe's highest mountain and this provides a spectacular outdoor playground which is as enriching visually as it is physically. We would definitely recommend taking the Aiguille du Midi cable car up to enjoy the spectacular views of the French, Italian and Swiss Alps.

Watch mountaineers make their bid to summit Mont Blanc as you continue your journey on the Panoramic du Mont Blanc gondola across to Pointe Helbronner, the highest point above Courmayeur. You'll feel like you are on top of the world and the panoramic views of the mountain are breath-taking.

Accommodation: Hotel Mont Blanc - Summer (5 nights)
