Lyon and Beaujolais

Lyon is the second city of France and loved by Parisians who liken it to Paris without the crowds! Sharing banks of the Rhone and Soane rivers the city dates back to Roman times and the ancient Vieux Lyon is without doubt the most famous and most visited area of the town, especially since its classification as a world heritage center by UNESCO.

Lyon used to be the former heart of the silk industry and beyond the city lie the undulating wine lands of Beaujolais, Cote Roti and further south the Cotes du Rhone. Gastronomy is foremost a reason to visit this part of the world, apart from the wonderful architecture of the city and many activities it offers, a visit to the famous Halles de Lyon Paul Bocouse, named after the famous chef and son of Lyon. Once inside, this 'paradise ' of French gastronomy will enthral even the most jaded palate! There are some 58 establishments showcasing the very best of Lyonnais traditional cuisine and products. The atmosphere is lively and festive, and as the brochure says, " Les Halles de Lyon unites the whole food spectrum through as shared passion for excellence". Just another side of this vibrant city.
