Occupying a private hill in Na Phon Village in the Mai Chau Valley, Mai Chau Ecolodge lies just 3 hours southwest of Hanoi. This simple but eco-conscious lodge is a short walk from the villages of Lac and Pom Coong, the soul of Mai Chau. The lodge's location allows you to avoid the tourist hubs while staying close Mai Chau and its bustling morning market.

Purposely placed away from the main roads, Mai Chau Eco Lodge was built using entirely natural materials. Its thatched roofs, bamboo interiors and wooden furniture add to the tribal character familiar to the region. The lodge encapsulates the idea of getting back to nature, ideal for guests who love the getting outside. Here you can experience the enchanting surroundings without the presence of modern-day technology, a perfect way to totally switch off.

The service at the lodge is good and the dining options bring together a fusion of Vietnamese and Thai tribal food common in this region, incorporating fresh ingredients and local produce. If you have a particular passion for food, opt for a cooking lesson for an authentic cultural experience.

There are plenty of other activities to suit all from hiking and cycling experiences, spending the day working with local farmers in an active discovery of local life or simply revitalizing yourself with a massage. Mai Chau lodge is located 3 hours from the center of Hanoi in the Hoa Binh Province of Vietnam.

When to go

The best time to visit Mai Chau and the Hoa Binh province is from February to April and September to November avoiding the heat and the rain. The official peak season in Vietnam is from September to April as these months see the least rain. December to February are the cooler months. May to September is the rainy season with the most rain failing in July and August and typhoons are possible.
