The weather's pleasant on Easter Island year-round. The peak tourist season runs from January to March. Prices are highest and accommodations scarcest during this period, especially during the Tapati Rapa Nui festival. The rest of the year is less crowded and at times you'll have the whole island to yourself. July and August might be a bit chilly for some tastes but it's ideal for hiking.

Explora Rapa Nui, owned by the prestigious Explora group, is Easter Island's premier luxury hotel. Guests at Explora Rapa Nui (formerly Posada de Mike Rapu) can enjoy a wide range of excursions to discover the many wonders of this mythical Pacific island.
Set on a hill overlooking the deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, Explora Rapa Nui acts as the perfect base for exploring this beautiful and mysterious island, the most remote inhabited island in the world and home to a culture whose origins and evolution remain unexplained.
The hotel has been carefully designed and constructed to fit with the geography of the island and to create minimal impact on the environment. Volcanic rock, native to the island and pine wood from the mainland are the principal materials used in the construction. The hotel has 30 very comfortable guest rooms and suites, all with a small living area, hydro massage bath and plush beds to sink into at the end of the day.
The main lodge at Explora Rapa Nui houses relaxing living areas and a dining area, whilst just a few steps away one finds the pool, heated open-air Jacuzzis, bar and the Hare Taheta massage room, where guests can indulge in a relaxing and therapeutic massage whilst contemplating the ocean views.
Explora guests have the opportunity to participate in fantastic and diverse daily explorations run by the lodge to experience first hand the fascinating culture, flora and fauna of the island. The excursions and activities range from gentle to more demanding, to suit all levels of ability and taste, and are accompanied by expert bilingual guides, the majority of whom are native Rapa Nui.
Explora Rapa Nui has 26 Varúa rooms and four Raa suites, all with ocean views. All rooms and suites feature a small living area and bathroom with hydromassage bath. There are no televisions in the rooms, in keeping with the hotel's ethos to ensure maximum tranquility and calm.
Children are more than welcome at Explora Rapa Nui and special Family Plan rates are available. Children will enjoy the variety of activities on offer and are sure to find their stay on Easter Island both an exciting and educational experience.
Explora Rapa Nui has an indoor dining area, bar area, outdoor swimming pool, heated outdoor Jacuzzis and a massage room.
Explora is known for the quality of its explorations and the Rapa Nui hotel is no exception. There are more than 15 different explorations on offer, some on foot, others by bicycle, some taking a few hours, others a full day. The explorations are led by expert bilingual guides, fully versed in the local history and environment. Easter Island has a huge variety of marine life and boat trips, snorkeling and fishing can all be arranged, plus scuba diving through a local dive center.
Co-owned by Explora and the prominent islander whose name it bears, Explora en Rapa Nui is unquestionably the swishest place on this volcanic island marooned some 2,300 miles west of Chile, and as with Explora's other properties, the building itself is the real star: Its black- and blond-wood exterior follows the folds of the earth, a repeated oval motif riffing on traditional islander design. Picture windows dominate the 30 ample rooms, which are pleasingly clad in unfinished wood and shocking splashes of lime. Located three miles from Hanga Roa, the only town, the hotel fronts a broad vista of feisty Pacific surf and uninhabited grassland that rises to impressive volcanic cones, while the nearest of the island's 887 mysterious moai rock sculptures are within walking distance. Explora insists guests stay at least three days, but the time zips effortlessly by in the company of garrulous islander staff and twice-daily walks to jagged cliffs, labyrinthine caves, yawning craters, and sandy coves, passing enough moai to last most guests a lifetime.
The combination of breathtaking nearby archaeology, spaceshiplike architecture, and fine food and drinks leaves most visitors to this hotel, a recent replacement of the island's smaller Explora Hotel, in awe. Many of their treks, led by native Rapa Nui guides and capped at a maximum of 8 people, are rarely done by other operators and they even have exclusive access to several trails. Excursions are so superbly timed that you rarely encounter the hordes of bus tours that plague most sites. While the price to stay here is high, it includes all excursions (two a day) plus contemporary Pacific Rim meals and all drinks, not to mention the best rooms on the entire island. The high-ceilinged guest rooms are set six to a building and utilize lots of wood, volcanic stone, and glass, offering distant ocean views over the pastoral setting just a 15-minute ride from town. Each room also features ambient lighting, linen bedspreads draped over ultra comfortable beds, and lavish bathrooms. Little extras such as the amuse-bouche and pisco sours that are passed out after excursions are the ahu topping on one fine moai. The hotel was also recently the first in Latin America to garner LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
