Belmond Eagle Island Lodge is set on a private island at the heart of Botswana's Okavango Delta, the world's largest inland delta and home to a bewildering array of habitat and wildlife.
The entire lodge was closed over the greater part of 2015 to enjoy a full rebuild, new guest tents and communal areas have been designed to soak in the natural light and enhance the views out over the delta scenery. The design takes in the shapes and textures of the Delta, with a color palette reflecting the color of a wet elephant, copper features to reflect Botswana's mining heritage and stylish woven furnishings reflecting the nests of weaver birds.
Each guest tent is spacious and light; guests have the luxury of a private plunge pool to cool off during the heat of the day. A clever and discreet air conditioning system quietly keeps you cool at night and each tent features a stocked mini bar, en-suite bathroom with outdoor shower and large indoor bath.
The bar and sitting area are set to maximize the views over the watery wilderness and the legendary Fish Eagle bar is the perfect spot for sundowners. Meals tend to be taken al fresco, weather permitting, and the fire-pit is the communal focus before and after dinner, a great spot for star-gazing.
Other features of the lodge are internet access in the main lounge area, a same-day laundry service, curio shop and a small reference library. The lodge also enjoys a private, easy-access airstrip and helipad.
Enjoy game viewing through the ecosystem, the water based safaris by aluminium boat and mokoro are a real highlight of this area. Experiencing a scenic flight by helicopter is a must do experience and take the opportunity to head out on foot with your guide on a walking safari.
There are just twelve en-suite luxury tented rooms at Eagle Island Lodge. Each has been designed with light and elegant interiors, at the center of each is an oversized bed. All tented suites feature a rim-flow plunge pool, outdoor shower and indoor bath. There's a fully stocked mini bar in each room and each room has a room-to-room telephone for keeping in contact with your group or family.
Children over the age of six are welcome at Belmond's Eagle Island Lodge, but must be accompanied by an adult (over the age of 16) at all times. Children, considered between 6 and 12 will be required to sleep in the parents' room, in the accompaniment of at least 1 adult (over the age of 16). No children under six are permitted to stay at the lodge due to safety reasons.
Two game viewing activities a day are included at Belmond Eagle Island Lodge. The real highlight of the area are the water-based experiences: mokoro trips, aluminium boat safaris and sundowner cruises. Take the opportunity to head out on foot with your guide and if possible enjoy a scenic helicopter flight over the Okavango Delta, an incredible experience.
