Ice Climbing on the Mer de Glace, Chamonix
If you love a challenge then ice climbing is definitely up there with challenging sports and is not for the faint hearted.
This is a full day's itinerary beginning with the famous Montenvers train which takes you to the edge of the Mer de Glace. From there, the group hikes on the Mer de Glace with its turquoise labyrinth of ice, between ice towers and crevasses, under legendary peaks such as the Drus, Aiguille Vert and the Grandes Jorasses before you reach the crag for ice climbing.
The guides will teach or remind you of the basics of mountaineering, learning how to wield an ice axe as well as how to use walking rope, crampons and doing basic knots. All the knowledge you need to safely enjoy this spectacular sport.
