Cross Country Skiing
Cross-country skiing differs to downhill skiing, as it is generally practiced over flat ground and skiers use their own strength and power to move across the snow. Skiers propel themselves forward either using a side-to-side skating motion or in classic style where skiers stay to parallel tracks moulded in to the snow, assisted by ski poles to push against the ground. Nowadays cross-country skiing is a leisure activity, however traditionally it was seen as a means of transportation.
Cross-country, or Nordic, skiing is also fantastic for your fitness, and at the competitive level is one of the most cardiovascular-intense sports in the world.
