The vast province of Sichuan has a diverse and varied climate. The eastern lowlands of the Sichuan Basin have a tropical monsoon climate, characterised by humidity and fog. Winters are mild, summers are scorching, autumn is wet, and spring is dry and pleasant. The cities of Chengdu is famed for its fog, with the weather often likened to a damp day in London. The mountainous gorges and forested plains along the Yangtze River make autumn and spring the prime time for a Yangtze Cruise, with clear skies and pleasant temperatures making ideal sightseeing weather. Winter can be spectacular, despite the cold, when the water level is lower in the Three Gorges and the soaring cliffs even more dramatic.

I wasnt sure what to expect from Chengdu. I was there like everyone else to see the Pandas and didnt know what else to expect from the city. The Ritz Carlton is located on the upper floor of one of the city's many new tower blocks and my room looked out onto grey fog and cranes building even more tower blocks in one of the countries fastest growing cities. The room itself was excellent, large, very luxurious and brand new. A huge bath and rainforest shower and floor to ceiling glass windows to admire the fog. We were on the club floor which Id recommend as you get access to a lovely club lounge with great drinks and enough snacks to constitute a meal served all day. As for Chengdu itself, despite the rain and the gloom its known as one of chinas happiest cities and the people were great as were the even more famous local residents.

The Ritz Carlton Chengdu located in the heart of the city provides the perfect place from which to explore Chengdu. Yes it is not in the old town of Chengdu which is full of character, however Chengdu itself offers little to the tourist apart from the beautiful countryside and pandas beyond the city. The Ritz Carlton has charming and flawless service along with very comfortable and beautifully decorated rooms providing the ideal base in the city.
