Surrounded by fifty acres of olive groves, palms and verdant gardens, yet just a short drive away from the medina of Marrakech, the Mandarin Oriental is a luxury oasis within close reach of the main sights of the city.
Whilst contemporary in its architecture, the property retains a distinctly Moroccan charm, with thoughtful Berber influences and riad inspired courtyards. On a clear day, panoramic views of the Atlas Mountains can be seen; their snowy peaks making for a particularly impressive sight during winter months.
Accommodation consists of a superb range of suites and standalone villas, which offer a contemporary twist on a traditional Moroccan riad and the very highest level of comfort and privacy. Villas start from a spacious 288 square metres and are built around a central courtyard with an ornate swimming pool and hot tub, tastefully complimented by candlelit lanterns, an open fireplace and cosy seating areas.
With glass doors leading from every room onto the courtyard, the flow between inside and outside is effortless, creating a wonderful sense of space. Each room is elegant yet sleek in design, the bathroom with its large sunken bathtub and walk-in shower steam room, a sumptuous master bedroom with luxurious linens and a separate comfortable living area. Suites are located on the first floor of the main building and offer terraces with private plunge pools and views of the Atlas Mountains.
With a selection of restaurants ranging from fine Moroccan cuisine to relaxed poolside dining, food here is one of the highlights. Ling Ling by Hakkasan attracts a stylish crowd, where meals are served to accompany the drinks, rather than the other way around. Mes'Lalla serves traditional Moroccan cuisine with a contemporary twist, sourcing much of the produce from the organic vegetable garden within the hotel grounds.
Alfresco Mediterranean lunches and drinks can be enjoyed poolside during the daytime, and an in-villa dining service is available, with meals served to your private terrace or prepared exclusively by chefs in the villa's separate kitchen area.
If you can pull yourself away from your villa hideaway, the hotel boasts an fantastic spa which is well worth a visit. Guests are spoiled for choice from the treatments and traditional hammam therapies on offer, and the private walled garden offers a serene place in which to unwind. There is a large indoor pool, modern gym, open air yoga sessions and even gentle cycling and running trails to be enjoyed around the resort. Just five minutes from the hotel you will find tennis courts, and the nearby golf courses are perfect for a round with a view.
