Average time to visit

Manitoba has a typically subarctic climate with very distinct seasons that have sharp temperature changes. During the winter months, temperatures can be as low as -36 degrees celsius, and in the summer months, temperatures of 36 degrees celsius are not uncommon. The snow is deeper than 1cm for over 130 days of the year, so the region is known for its long winter and snowy conditions. Despite the coldness, skies are often completely clear and due to very low levels of pollution, stargazing and northern lights viewing are excellent night-time activities.

Description

Sitting in the heart of polar bear territory, Seal River Lodge is immersed in Canada's Arctic wilderness and overlooks the Hudson Bay, offering visitors the chance to encounter some of the world's most fascinating mammals including bears and belugas.

The Hudson Bay is known to be one of North America's most wildlife rich coastlines, home to friendly Beluga whales, seals and of course, the largest concentration of polar bears in the world - so it only fits that one of National Geographics Unique Lodges of the World is located here.

Offering guests unique opportunities to spot polar bears in their natural habitat and go whale watching in the search of Beluga whales in the summer months, Seal River Heritage Lodge is one of those places where incredible memories are made that simply cannot be replicated.

Although remote, the lodge is extremely cosy and warm with plenty of common areas complete with a crackling fireplace. There are also spectacular coastal views of the bay which can be admired whilst dining on gourmet food especially prepared by kitchen staff or simply relaxing in the lounge with a hot beverage. For the occasions where bears come up close to the lodge, there is a viewing tower from which you can enjoy the expansive tundra landscape and its residents.

After the days adventures, whether you've been out on a hiking trip or boat safari, you can retreat to the lodge and interact with other guests to share stories of your day. After dinner, head to your guestroom for a restful nights sleep, ready for the next day of new and exciting experiences.
