Jackson Hole has five distinct seasons: summer (usually June to August), fall (September through October), off-season (November), winter (December through March) and off-season (April and May). In the summer and fall, downtown Jackson Hole is bustling, and it’s easy to drive the 20 minutes to Grand Teton National Park or Teton Village. Each September, Jackson hosts a two-week Fall Arts Festival. It's a great time to stay at The Wort. The Jackson Hole hotel has a great energy those two weeks. In the winter, the entire valley quiets down a bit. While some skiers prefer to stay 15 minutes away in Teton Village, others like staying in Jackson and driving out to Teton Village to ski. The Wort has a private, complimentary ski shuttle. There is also a bus stop with service to Teton Village a block away from the luxury hotel’s front door. Another reason to stay in Jackson Hole is the choice of restaurants, bars and shops is bigger in Jackson than in Teton Village.

Head to the charming town of Jackson Hole for a stay at The Wort Hotel. The historic property is all about western hospitality and in summer or winter, this hotel is one of the most popular Jackson Hole mountain-style lodges.
Located just half-block from Jackson Hole's famous elk-antler-arched Town Square, The Wort is a Historic Hotel dating back to 1941, when Jackson's downtown streets were still dirt tracks. Today it's on the National Register of Historic Places, and little has changed on the exterior, including the red rock trim the Wort brothers quarried themselves in the Gros Ventre valley. The Wort's fifty-nine guest rooms are cosy and the epitome of mountain-lodge style, with dark wood furniture, locally handcrafted bedspreads and original Western-inspired art by local wildlife artists.
The interior offers little touches of luxury; double-pillow top mattresses and Fili D’oro linens, a permanent art collection with nearly 100 original pieces by Western and wildlife artists; rich, deep colours; hand-carved suite doors and custom wooden furniture. All together, it has a Jackson Hole Old World rustic Western elegance that is hard to find elsewhere.
The Wort has a great central location in Jackson close to the Town Square and on one of the city’s main streets Broadway Avenue. Downtown Jackson Hole’s best restaurants, like Local, The Kitchen and Snake River Grill are only a few minutes’ walk away. And the hotel's Silver Dollar Restaurant definitely should be tried. The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar has live music most weekends and is right on the square. Just across the street from the luxury hotel in the Wort Plaza is a patisserie, Coco Love, run by culinary Olympian Oscar Ortega, who makes the best bonbons and milkshakes you’ll ever have.
The southern entrance to Grand Teton National Park is only twenty minutes away for sublime wildlife watching and Yellowstone just over an hour's drive, and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, which is one of the country’s top ski areas, is also twenty minutes away.
In the winter, the Wort is a great place to stay, as it is just one block from the main public bus or there is a complimentary private Wort shuttle to take you in to Teton Village. You can then arrive back at the hotel to some great après at the renowned Silver Dollar Bar & grill restaurant or for something more low-key there are always hot cider, hot chocolate and cookies served in the lobby.

There is no place like Jackson Hole for outdoor adventure and wildlife watching in both summer and winter. Located right next to Grand Teton National Park - named the Travel Channel's #1 park for wildlife and only 90 minutes from Yellowstone - the World's first National Park, Jackson Hole is surrounded by the crown jewels of the National Park System. By virtue of these icons of the American West, and in addition to the millions of combined acres of National Elk Refuge and three National Forests, ninety-seven percent of the land in Teton County is undeveloped providing an enormous feeling of space and freedom to guests visiting the area.
Teton village for skiing is just 15 minutes away on the Wort's private shuttle. The Teton mountain range are on a lot of people's bucket lists. So once they have been tried, why not try some cat-skiing in the neighbouring grand Targhee as well.
With such magnificent mountains and rivers - including the iconic Snake River - activity options are limitless. From the most thrilling white water rafting and skiing, to serene moments on horseback or alone by a placid alpine lake, there is something for everyone in Jackson Hole.
The Wort offers a dedicated concierge service for both summer activities and winter ski.

Regardless of the reason for being in Jackson, whether its skiing in the winter or Yellowstone in the summer, you really ought to experience some of the authentic Western culture that resides in this charming town. The Wort was opened in 1941 and it does an amazing job of transporting you back to this time; picture yourself eating some hearty food at The Silver Dollar Bar (where the counter is made of real silver dollars), side-by-side with some of the locals, live country music being performed in the background and historic cowboy paintings strewn across the walls, before retiring to your cosy Wild West inspired rooms. I think kids would absolutely love this hotel too due to its fun, relaxed ambience, and there are larger suites and adjoining rooms which accommodate families.

The Wort, it seems, is part of Jackson Holes furniture. With a fascinating history that I wont divulge too much (youll have to read all about it yourself on the hotels history walk around its inner hallways) you feel like youre really living the Jackson Hole life when you stroll in through the doors. If you want to be right in the centre of town, this is your place. You can forget the car for a day or two and enjoy the charming streets of Jackson by foot. There is a slight downside to this as there can be street noise, however, there are better locations within the hotel to be accommodated where you can be assured of a quiet night and we know where they are!
I had just a night at the Wort. The service on arrival was a little slow, my room wasnt ready when it should have been but the staff couldnt have been friendlier and immediately offered me a complimentary breakfast the next morning as recompense. When I was finally shown to my room, I was lucky enough to be in one of the suites they have on offer The carved doors with scenes from the wild west lead the way. The rooms are traditionally western with dark wood furniture, cowboy trappings in place and an ever so comfy bed complete with my own cuddly grizzly bear which is to be mine to keep me company during my stay. The bathrooms are a little old school but the water is hot and the shower sprightly so all is good there. These suites can connect so are ideal for families with a King bed in one room and a queen in another. An extra air bed (which Im assured is very comfy) can be added in as well for a smaller child to keep the family all together.
In the evening, its all kicking off in the Silver Dollar Bar. A popular spot for locals and visitors alike, it serves good beer and hearty food. What it lacks in sophistication, it makes up for in great music, perfect for getting up and dancing to. There are bands playing several nights a week and although joining in isnt mandatory, its easily infectious and a perfect way to unleash your inner cowboy (or cowgirl in my case). The hotel rooms above the bar do get affected by noise and vibration during this time, however, the music finishes promptly at 11pm and there are plenty of rooms that cant hear a peep if you think you cant wait that long.
All in all, the Wort is charming, traditionally warm and welcoming and a great spot to be in for a day or two in Jackson Hole. Dont expect grand facilities or contemporary trappings, but if you want a friendly welcome and wonderfully comfy bed, this is the place to be.
