Ideal conditions exist between December and May, when temperatures average between 16°C and 30°C, and average rainfall is a mere 2.14in per month. Lovingly made over in contemporary plantation style and effortlessly chic, the Betsy - South Beach is one of Miami’s most beguiling hotels, ideal for couples and families alike, and boasting a prime position on Ocean Drive right across from Miami Beach.
The Betsy - South Beach is one of those places that doesn’t have to try too hard. Behind its plantation-style shutters and columned façade is a cool haven of colonial beach front chic. Quietly luxurious, fresh and understated, it’s the perfect place to retreat to after a day on the beach or a night out on the town.
The Betsy - South Beach is located in a fantastic position at the quieter end of Ocean Drive, but there are a number of cafés and restaurants close by, and the rest of the Art Deco district is within walking distance. Enter the hotel lobby and instantly you will recognise the soft hum of contented guests. The space is open-plan, and includes the hotel’s hip BLT restaurant and a lounge bar that is perfect for lazing as you sip a Sea Breeze and enjoy the constantly changing art collections on show. There are of course plenty of spots for would-be paparazzi in Miami, but the Betsy is not one of them. Our advice is: stay here and go out to party if that’s what you want.
The hotel’s 130 rooms and suites come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are split across two wings of the property; the Colonial wing and the Art Deco wing. Colonial rooms and suites offer a nod to classic antebellum style, but blended with a contemporary South Beach aesthetic – think lavenders and yellows and whites, dark wooden floors and soft linens. Spacious bathrooms stuffed with Malin & Goetz products, plus all the technology you need, ensure that you certainly won’t be slumming it here. In the Art Deco wing, expect a fresh take on iconic art deco styling, with breezy rooms and cool wooden furniture.
The Betsy’s LT Steak & Seafood restaurant is one of Miami’s best, and if you fancy an alfresco wagyu steak or tuna tartare in gently glamorous surroundings, you are in for a treat. The Alley, a more casual trattoria serving up stone-oven pizza and homemade pasta is located in the Art Deco Wing. Downstairs is B Bar, the hotel’s basement 'speakeasy’, a private art-filled bar with innovative mixology, moody lighting and a unique ambience, perfect for private dinners or events.
Other facilities include a peaceful courtyard swimming pool, a rooftop wellness garden and spa with sea views and a pool, a fitness centre, and a poetry library. Across the road is South Beach, where the Betsy commands its own strip of white sand and a well-stocked bar serving soft drinks and snacks, perfect for watching the world go by as you recline under a parasol.
The Betsy has 130 rooms in total, spread across both the Colonial and Art Deco wings. The Classic Rooms are a little small, so we would recommend going for Superior and upwards.
Cribs can be added to all rooms at no extra charge, and the Suites all have sofa beds. There are children's menus, and babysitters and nannies can be organised through the hotel concierge. Miami is a great place for children of all ages. Apart from South Beach, Jungle Island is just a 10-minute taxi ride away.
Spa services on the rooftop, library, full gym, Wi-Fi access, full beach service, two swimming pools, two restaurants and lobby bar serving all of the same incredible food, wine and spirits offered in the restaurant. Please note that there is an additional charge for beach umbrellas.
Shopping, dining, clubbing and visits to galleries in Miami are all popular activities. Further afield are the Everglades, which makes a great day out, or head down to the Keys.

The Betsy is a lovely place to stay away from the busyness of South beach, it is on Ocean Drive so still just steps from the beach but it is smaller and more personable than some of its neighbours so it is great for couples and younger families. The Hotel is in traditional Miami style with some older decor and lovely art work but then all of the rooms have been renovated to a really high standard with beautiful sleek decor.

If youre looking to stay right in the heart of the action but avoid the pumping music of many of the South Beach hotels, The Betsy should definitely be your first port of call. Located right on Ocean Drive, you cant be more in the midst of South Beach. Step out of the front of the hotel and within seconds youre right in the middle of the fun and frolics of this famous part of the city. Across the road the park leads on to the beach and boardwalk, perfect for morning strolls and afternoon lazing. The hotel has its own loungers and umbrellas for guests at the hotel although the couple of minutes walk and the road crossing to get there may not suit some. Inside the hotel offers an intimate bar and lounge where jazz musicians often play in the evenings, historic pictures of famous musicians of bygone days adorn the walls and the colonial feel is apparent. The hotel has added on a whole new Atrium wing in recent months which extends the capacity of the hotel. The original rooms, including those that offer an ocean view are still relatively small but fine for a night or two for a couple wanting to be close to everything. The newer Atrium rooms are more spacious and many offer balconies although these dont offer views or particular privacy, just a little outside space. The new rooftop pool is an ideal place to while away an afternoon and watch the sun go down and the rooftop terrace overlooking the ocean is a great little spot for a cocktail and relax. If youre looking for a quiet spot or a hotel to relax and holiday in, this probably isnt the place for you. It can be a little noisy at night and the rooms are still quite small, but if you would like a night or two of Miami fun but more of a retreat than a party hotel, this is an ideal choice for a little taster of old Miami Beach.

Betsy Hotel generally excellent, good rooms, location, food and staff. Restaurant was very expensive, but the food was superb.
James Royal Palm, OK , but rather spoilt by very loud music and disco going all day around the pool, this hotel is better for younger clients who want to party.l
