The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Wyoming have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.

The Limelight is a fun, social hotel to stay at in Aspen. It is a great option for families, couples and friends too. The staff are all trained at the Little Nell so the fantastic service is really evident, but it is just in a more relaxed environment. My favourite part of the hotel is the lobby area. It is the place to be for aprs and as popular with locals as it is with guests. Towards the end of the week they have local bands playing on a small stage during the aprs which is very fun (I would mention I popped to my room before dinner whilst the band were playing and there is no problem with noise at all). Aside from this time, the lobby is an inviting, cosy place to socialise around the fireplace with friends or family.
With the location in mind, it is a short five-minute walk from Gondola 1 at the base of Aspen Mountain. (If you hire your skis with Four Mountain Sports they will keep your equipment at the bottom of the mountain of your choice in Aspen, so you do not need to consider carrying these to and from the slopes. (If you have your own skis they will store them for $10 per night)). Whilst it was easy to get around Aspen from the Limelight, I do admit to taking advantage of their driver service when meeting friends across town. You literally ask one of the reception team on your way out and they will take you themselves where you would like to go in Aspen there and then. I found the Limelight to be a great hotel especially if you are looking for a property with impeccable service but in a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere than you may find elsewhere. I have to say I really enjoyed my stay here.

The Limelight is our most cost-effective property and is great if you want to experience Aspen at a more modest price. The hotel has a relaxed but welcoming atmosphere and suits both families and couples alike with a bright a modern interior. The hotel is located about 10 minutes from Ajax Mountain but the hotel operates a shuttle to the Silver Queen Gondola and the bus stop to Aspens other mountains is just outside the hotel entrance so you have quick and easy access to all of Aspens wonderful skiing

This is such a great value hotel in an otherwise fairly expensive town, so it is a great place to stay when you want to experience the 5* mountains and resort but still keeping an eye on your dollars.
