Lake Powell has a desert climate moderated by altitude, with cool to cold winters and warm to hot summers, and plenty of sunshine year-round. Spring and Fall enjoy milder days and cool nights whilst the summer months from June to August provide warm to hot days of around 35 degrees and pleasant evenings due to the desert climate. The summer months are prime time on Lake Powell, the water is warm and the sunsets are beautiful. The lake is awash with boats, water sports and the marinas come alive, often hosting live music and mini-festivals. In spring the snow melts, and the waters are cooler, spawning new fish meaning it's a great time to come and fish on the lake. In autumn, the water is still warm for swimming and there's less boat and people traffic, making for empty hiking trails.

Spending a few nights aboard a houseboat on the sapphire-blue waters of Lake Powell is a magical way to stay in stay in the desert. With more shoreline than the entire west coast, there are slot canyons to explore, fishing and an abundance of watersports
Lake Powell is like no other place on earth. Soaring Navajo Sandstone cliffs, towering buttes, seemingly endless canyons, beaches and hiking trails - like playing in the Grand Canyon by boat. House boaters, fishermen, and visitors from all over the globe come to Lake Powell to get away and connect. Lake Powell is 186 miles long and has about 1,960 miles of shoreline. There are ninety-six major canyons, some over 20 miles long that can be explored by speed boat or kayak. There are hundreds of great beaches to anchor, go fishing, set up a camp fire, and watch a breathtaking sunset against the coloured towering buttes.
The Lake Powell houseboat experience can be utterly relaxing, with little to do all day but swim in the crystal clear glacial water, putt-putt around exploring the lake's many coves, read on the deck and relax on the beach. For those looking for more adventure, we can organise a power boat to accompany your houseboat for exploring slot canyons and for water sports. Water-skis, jet-skis, kayaks can be organised at Wahweep Marina and the lake becomes a summertime playground.
Lake Powell houseboats can be rented for three days or longer. Houseboats move slowly at no more than 10 mph, and mooring them up takes time. There is no need to have any experience of houseboating, as the marina staff will explain how to navigate the boat and even assist with getting you safely out of the marina and out to explore the lake.
For those that simply want to sit back and relax, we can organise a captain to drive the boat, and even moor the boat in a picturesque spot for you. The new Axiom Star yacht comes complete with piloting services as well to moor you to an idyllic spot and a speedboat for exploring slot canyons independently and for watersports.
Guests staying on the houseboat for just three days might choose to use it as a floating hotel under the stars and stay put on a private beach, for those with longer to explore might choose to put-put further along the lake shore.
If moored up on a beach or with a private speed boat, stunning hiking trails can be easily accessed. Lace up a pair of comfortable boots, fill up your water bottle and take in the breathtaking views of sculpted sandstone, ancient Puebloan cliff dwellings, primitive petroglyphs and experience an awe-inspiring landscape of the West. Whether you're on a guided tour of Rainbow Bridge or exploring Oak Canyon sights on your own, heading out on foot is extremely rewarding.
Whether you're a seasoned fisherman hoping for a record catch, or just want to relax under the sun with a rod and reel and try your hand at fishing, Lake Powell has some wonderful fishing. The lake is teaming with Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass, Walleye and Bluegill - so there's a pretty good chance you'll be hooking dinner. Fishing licences can easily be obtained prior to your visit, or you can take a guided fishing trip with a local to increase your chances of a good catch.
Combine a stay on a houseboat with a road-trip in Utah taking in highlights including Zion National Park, Monument Valley and the adventure capital of Moab to take in the best of the South West.
There are three categories of houseboats you can choose to stay on. Luxury houseboats are perfect for those seeking lots of space and modern amenities. Deluxe houseboats are well suited to those who want the amenities but are willing to compromise on extra space. Economy houseboats are ideal for those who have a smaller budget, they have less space and fewer amenities and are more basic in style. Most of the boats can sleep up to 10 guests.
The lake is a rugged and remote place with limited facilities once you get away from the full-service marinas. There are, of course, no lifeguards on the beaches, and it is real nature. When on the water or parked in a houseboat, life jackets should always be on children (and anyone that cannot swim). Children of all ages enjoy the lake, but the houseboat experience is essentially recommended for families with children who are confident in the water.
Houseboats offer full kitchens for self catering facilities, including large refrigerators and barbecues on deck. Groceries can be bought at a well-stocked supermarket in Page, a short 15-minute drive from the marina, or guests can choose from a shopping list prior to arrival so that the kitchen is fully stocked on arrival (fee applicable).
Guests can also choose to have a chef on board should they wish, either staying on the houseboat with the family, or hire another boat to accommodate the staff. The joy of house boating is that guests can be as self-sufficient or as well looked after as they wish.
There are also small supermarkets for stocking up on cool drinks, snacks and essentials at the marinas around the lake.
Fishing, water sports and hiking are the hot pursuits of the summer months on a houseboat. The joy of being aboard a houseboat is exploring the canyons and beaches, and we can provide help provide sample itineraries for how to make the most of your adventure.
