Average time to visit

San Francisco is a year-round destination but has a cool maritime climate. In the summer, the city’s famous fog rolls in mornings and evenings, creating a misty chill in the air. Spring sees the end of the rainy season, and the city’s pretty-in-pink cherry blossom trees dot the landscape. In Autumn Indian Summer comes to San Francisco, bringing warm, dry days with plenty of sunshine. The very best time of year is August to October when temperatures are at their highest and days are often sunny.

An award-winning escape, Cavallo Point Lodge is a luxury San Francisco hotel located at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge in one of America’s most popular National Parks.

Cavallo Point Lodge is located just minutes from the San Francisco excitement, Sausalito charm and Marin Headland’s activities. The resort has been named one of the Top 10 New American Landmarks, with its unique location in the Golden Gate National Park.

The resort blends old and new to great effect, especially in regards to the style of accommodation available. Guests can choose from the unique and beautifully restored historical rooms in Fort Baker, a former Army Post, with hillside or San Francisco vistas. Or guests can opt for the more contemporary lodgings perched up on the hill with impressive views of the bay and The Golden Gate Bridge. All the rooms and suites are equipped with luxurious facilities and windows that open to let the bay breeze in, cosy sitting areas and organic beddings.

The hotel's Murray Circle restaurant is a destination in itself. Guests can choose from a selection of 2000 wines, dine in views of the Golden Gate Bridge and sample Chef Justin Everett’s fine seasonal, locally sourced cuisine. The Farley Bar has a welcoming atmosphere for a pre-dinner aperitif or a post dinner digestif, with its warming fireplace and leather chairs, guests can unwind in comfort. Furthermore, you could enjoy some hands on cooking yourself with the Cavallo Cooking School. The school offers an intimate learning environment where you can learn to cook some of the dishes you’ve sampled in the restaurant.

The tranquil Healing Arts Centre and Spa at Cavallo Point Lodge is a favourite amongst Scott Dunn guests. The welcoming and peaceful environment of the spa never fails to leave guests feeling rejuvenated and relaxed. Guests can enjoy a choice of signature massages, holistic body and mind treatments, yoga classes, spending time in the heated outdoor meditation pool or sitting by the fireplace to reflect.

Cavallo Point feels like a welcome calm retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a great place to spend your first few nights if arriving straight from the UK and needing some time to adjust to the new time zone and to relax after the long flight. On a clear day a short walk takes you to several viewpoints offering the most stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge away from the hordes of tourists!

A breathe of fresh air away from the city, Cavallo Point feels like a calm country retreat. The large Suites and modern units are well spaced in amongst a green setting right on the waterfront. No Golden Gate bridge direct views from historic rooms but amazing views of city on a clear day. A roaring log fire and a glass of red wine made for a cosy retreat on a cooler day, and the huge outdoor grass area is perfect for picnics and children to play on sunny days. A really impressive hotel.

We arrived off the flight from London and what a joy to be shown to our little two bedroom suite overlooking the old parade ground and the iconic red structure of the Golden Gate Bridge. Somehow to be surrounded by trees, blue skies and green grass with the shimmering blue of San Francisco Bay in the distance was a soothing start to our holiday. We awoke to the sound or birdsong having left the windows open which we could never have done in downtown San Francisco, strolled across the green lawns of the parade ground to breakfast on the colonial terrace of the Murray Circle Restaurant looking back to the bridge. Tossing up whether we went up to explore the famous Muir Redwoods, pop into charming Sausalito, take bikes to ride across the bridge or make use of their swish car shuttle into downtown San Francisco we decided to take the latter and by 11.30 were in the heart of Fishermans Wharf ready to explore the city. What a joy to return back at 4pm after our lovely driver picked us up and whisked us back to the tranquillity of Cavallo Point for a delicious dinner in the Murray Circle before falling into our jet lagged sleep to the sound of the wind soughing through the trees and the distant hum of the fog horn, such a familiar sound in the San Francisco Bay area.
