Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Like most California destinations, you can’t go wrong when picking a time of year to visit. Being inland, Napa Valley benefits from much higher summer temperatures than the cool coast, and is a year-round destination but best from April to October.

At the vineyards, September is typically the harvest month, although some varieties may be picked through October and November. Vineyards will be bare from December through February, with new buds returning in March and coming into full bloom by June.

Summer temperatures reach up to around 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, and cool off to about 50 in the evenings, so you’ll want to bring a variety of clothes and dress in layers. Winter highs are around 60 degrees with lows occasionally just below freezing. The region averages around 200 days of sunshine per year, so you should have plenty of good weather to enjoy the outdoors.

Calistoga Ranch is a chic retreat in the Napa Valley, with just 48 cedar lodges with outdoor living spaces nestled in the forest, this cool and casual resort is on the doorstep of Napa's world class wineries.

Set within a vast 157-acre estate, Calistoga offers a delightfully peaceful retreat with gorgeous lodges with plenty of space, built from cedar and stone and blending harmoniously into the natural forest setting. All have the romantic outdoor showers that capture the essence of Calistoga's indoor and outdoor living and many of the lodges are built around trees growing up through the decking that give them a fun tree house feel.

You can access your lodge via a fleet of golf buggies or simply walk on peaceful woodland trails. There are four categories: The Deluxe Lodge offering a main bedroom with an outdoor living area, complete with a fireplace for the colder evenings. The One-Bedroom Suite has a bedroom separated from the lounge area and connected by a deck, which then opens out to an outdoor living area complete with a two-way fireplace that heats both the living area and the outdoor area. There is a Two-Bedroom option that is ideal for families, and comes with ample room for entertainment. The top suite, the Estate Lodge, offers two bedrooms and our favourite bit, the outdoor hot tub!

Given its location, Calistoga has one of the best wine lists we have come across, complementing a superb Californian menu. The main restaurant overlooks the lake and it makes for a magical culinary experience. There is a gorgeous main pool, set against the backdrop of the vineyard and the Mayacama Mountains beyond. The Spa is simply superb.

To work off all the indulgences you may have succumbed to during your stay, you can head out on the hiking trails, before re-succumbing to the many vineyards on offer as you drive through the stunning countryside of Napa Valley.
