Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

A mountainous country ideal for trekking, Tajikistan is best visited between July-September when the snows begin to clear leaving high mountain roads and hiking paths more accessible. It is best to avoid winters when temperatures plummet below 0°C and heavy snow may slow down or block road access. Tajikistan is the wettest of the Central Asia nations, with the average annual precipitation around 500-600mm and up to 1,500mm in the mountains.

Perched on the shores of vivid blue Iskanderkul Lake, Iskanderkul Cottages are a collection of simple cabins with views of the pristine waters and the surrounding Hissar mountains.

The remote location of the spectacular Iskanderkul Lake, named after the great Macedonian conqueror, Alexander the Great, allows you to truly get off the beaten track and reinforces the feeling of adventure. However, as with any remote and scenic location, it does mean that infrastructure and accommodation is basic. Iskanderkul Cottages are a collection of wooden chalets situated right on the shores of the lake, with a communal dining hall and warm showers. Facilities are basic, with running water and flushing toilets, but this is the best option here by Iskanderkul and offers an incredible, unique experience to explore this secluded corner of western Tajikistan.
