Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Summer (November to March) days can get quite warm (up to 28-32 degrees on average) but it is a dry heat. Summer rainfall, normally in the form of thunder storms are usually in the evening, however, the African climate is still always unpredictable. Autumn (April to May) days can still be warm but the evenings cool down. Average day time temperature 22-28 degrees. Evenings 10-15 degrees. Winter (June to August) days are warm (temperatures in the mid-twenties) evenings and early mornings very cold with average early morning temperatures 5-12 degrees. It very rarely rains at this time when the bush is golden and dry.
Spring (September, October) days start getting hotter, evenings and mornings could still be crisp but not as cold. A very slim chance of rain.

Description
Makweti is a luxurious safari lodge in the Welgevonden Game Reserve, in a malaria-free area near Madikwe in South Africa. The reserve has vast open savannahs that are home to good wildlife densities and the lodge has just five beautiful suites.
Makweti Safari Lodge is a small luxury lodge ideal for couples or honeymooners looking for a very personal safari experience. Located in the malaria-free Welgevonden Game Reserve, just three hours north of Johannesburg, it is easy to access, whether you're combining a stay in Cape Town or perhaps heading to a beautiful Mozambique beach afterwards. The 40,000 hectare reserve is home to a good variety of wildlife including the Big Five, offering some rewarding game-viewing.
There are five beautiful suites here, each with its own private plunge pool and deck where you can relax during siesta time between game drives.
The main lodge has a lovely lounge area with comfy armchairs to sink into with a good book, and the attentive staff will always be on hand to bring you a cool drink. There is a main swimming pool, too, and a viewing deck that overlooks a productive waterhole, which is a popular spot to while away some time before or after lunch.
Game-viewing is focussed on game drives in open-sided vehicles with expert guides (level 3 FGASA), ensuring you make the most of the wonderful wildlife here. Walking safaris are also possible but need to be pre-arranged. Back at the lodge, a masseuse is on hand to ease your aching muscles away - ideal after an international flight or a long day in a safari vehicle.
Childcare
Children over the age of 12 years are welcome to stay at Makweti, but we would advise that it is very much an adult-focussed safari lodge rather than one geared up to host families. There are other family-friendly lodges in the nearby region which cater to children and families more specifically and your Scott Dunn consultant can talk you through the options.
