Your journey begins in Muscat, where your private driver and guide will be waiting to whisk you to Jabal Akhdar, the Green Mountain. Perched 2,000 metres above sea level, this peaceful retreat is home to tiny villages and wonderful walking trails. Settle in for three nights of unhurried luxury, breathing in crisp mountain air and soaking up the epic views. Head out with your guide, by car or on foot, to the rose-growing villages that cling to the hillsides. Then spend a day in Nizwa, wandering the ancient streets and souq, and exploring the mighty Bahla Fort and Jabrin Castle.

After days in the mountains and dunes, settle in for three nights at The Chedi Muscat and enjoy a little well-earned indulgence.
On your half-day city tour, wander the old souq in Muttrah, where the scent of frankincense drifts through lantern-lit lanes, and discover some of the city’s finest museums. Take time to see the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, a masterpiece of Omani craftsmanship. For a change of scene, we recommend heading out by boat into the Gulf of Oman. Glide across the glassy water and watch for turtles surfacing beside the boat, their weathered shells glinting in the sun before they slip back beneath the waves. With a little luck, you may also spot dolphins or whales.

The best time to visit Oman is between November and mid-March, when the cooler air brings the mountain scenery sharply into focus and daytime temperatures average 25°C. For the rest of the year, much of Oman is oppressively hot and hazy, particularly between May and August. The Dhofar region, and Salalah, experiences the Khareef (or monsoon) during the summer months, between mid-June and mid-September, making the mountains really lush during this time and for some weeks afterwards. Salalah is much cooler than the north, reaching a maximum of 32°C during the summer.
