Ser Casasandra began as the home of artist Sandra Pérez Lozano, and it still feels like one. Original works hang throughout the property, fine cotton and linen soften the rooms, and handmade hammocks swing on the balconies, while the absence of televisions and telephones leaves the Caribbean to fill the silence. Choose a Master Luxury Beach Front suite on the top floor of the main building for sea views from a private balcony, a garden bungalow with its own living and dining room, or Villa Dreams, a two-bedroom house for families. Ser Esencia, open since 2004, serves Mayan-rooted Mexican cooking from Chef Andrés Fernández, and Mojito's Beach Club adds Cuban plates and mojitos with toes in the sand. At AHAL, the on-site holistic center, treatments range from hot stone massage to Mayan cleansing, and morning yoga by the pool is included for guests. On an island without cars, a Scott Dunn guest can slip from breakfast to the beach to a sunset meditation without opening a map. Add a whale shark swim in summer or a boat day to the bird islands, then return to a hammock built for doing very little.

11-hour international flight to Cancun International Airport. From the airport, is a 2-hour drive to the small coastal village of Chiquila, followed by a 30-minute boat ride to Holbox Island.
