Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The best time to travel is during the summer months (June to August) as the weather is pleasant and there is also likely to be good wildlife spotting opportunities when in the Great Bear Rainforest. Clayoquot is open from May to September each year. Here, spring and fall are often warm and pleasant but rainfall can be heavy, particularly on the coast. In Montana, June through to August is the peak time to travel with days hot and sunny and evening temperatures pleasant. Seattle and Vancouver should also boast daytime temperatures in the twenties throughout this time.

Itinerary

This ultimate summer family adventure is the perfect antidote to the modern world. Venture into the Canadian wilderness with a stay on the Clayoquot Sound before heading out to Montana for a luxury Wild West experience. Perfectly combining wildlife viewing and ranch activities, families will love the sense of adventure.

  1. Days 1-3: Vancouver

Begin your journey in Vancouver, a vibrant city on the west coast of Canada, famed for its foodie scene and impressive parks. During your stay in this picturesque city, explore Stanley Park on a relaxed bike tour - a fun way to take in the scenery before you become acquainted with some of the city's culinary delights on a tour of the famous Granville Market, an absolute must when visiting Vancouver.

Accommodation: Rosewood Hotel Georgia (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-7: Tofino

On your last morning, you will be picked up by your private driver who will take you back to Vancouver airport. From here you will fly 45 minutes by seaplane to the incredible Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, a remote wildlife and adventure haven for families and couples alike. Sitting on the pristine Clayoquot Sound, the lodge offers luxury tented accommodation in the midst of dense forests, sparkling inlets and snow-peaked mountains. With four nights here, you can throw yourself into all the activities on offer; from fishing in freshwater rivers to wildlife viewing by zodiac, nothing is too much trouble to organise for you. This intimate and remote resort allows guests to completely unwind and immerse themselves in total wilderness, leaving behind the stresses and technologies of the modern world.

Accommodation: Clayoquot Wilderness Resort (4 nights)

  3. Days 7-9: Seattle

From Clayoquot, you will fly back to Vancouver to connect with your onward flight to Seattle. Spend two nights here and enjoy a relaxed couple of days at your own pace. We recommend visiting the fascinating Museum of Flight which displays gliders and fighter jets aplenty allowing young imaginations to run wild. Pike Place Market is another popular choice with everything from comic books to antiques, crafts and imaginative foods spilling out from the many stalls. Depending on the dates of your stay, you might have the opportunity to go to a Mariners game at the Safeco Field.

Accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel Seattle (2 nights)

  4. Days 9-14: Montana

You will then fly to Missoula where you will be transferred privately to The Ranch at Rock Creek for your final four nights. The perfect way to end your trip on a high, The Ranch at Rock Creek combines perfectly an authentic ranch experience with activities aplenty and luxurious accommodation. Horse riding is central to the dude ranch experience but activities are far from limited; try skeet shooting, embark on hikes, jeep tours and even go mountain biking. In the summer months, the ranch also hosts its very own rodeo! In the evenings guests can toast s’mores over a crackling fire, enjoy ten-pin bowling or simply relax in the in-house cinema. After an invigorating few days in America's Wild West you will be transferred to Bozeman to connect with your flight back home via Chicago.

Accommodation: The Ranch at Rock Creek (5 nights)
