Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Nordic climate - May, June and July are the driest months of the year. Mid-June to August is high season, but most highland tours don’t operate until July because of snow. At other times, many tourist facilities outside Reykjavík are closed. From September through March, the night is dark enough to see the Aurora Borealis. From mid-March to the beginning of June Deplar Farm is used exclusively as a heli-skiing destination.

Itinerary

Iceland is a magical wilderness known for its thrilling adventures and incredible scenery. On this spectacular itinerary, get off the beaten track and discover once-in-a-lifetime experiences without compromising on luxury. While the scenery may be rugged, our choice of fantastic hotels makes for the ultimate trip through Iceland in the utmost style.

  1. Fly to Reykjavik

  2. Days 1-4: Reykjavik

Arriving in Reykjavik, you'll be whisked away to start your adventure with a bang, exploring the Reykjanes peninsula of south-west Iceland on an ATV. Discover Iceland's famous volcanic beaches as you drive across the dramatic black sand before heading to a more challenging landscape for an exhilarating off-road adventure. After speeding across the Icelandic countryside, return to Reykjavik to check in to the Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik and explore the city.

Located in the heart of Reykjavik, Canopy by Hilton makes for the perfect base from which to discover the city and southern Iceland. Contemporary Scandinavian design and comfortable interiors provide a warm and welcoming retreat after a busy day wandering Reykjavik's picturesque streets or taking in the incredible sights of the nearby countryside.

Spend your time in the south discovering truly remarkable experiences which take you away from the typical Icelandic tourist trail. There is a wealth of remote locations just waiting to be explored, and a host of opportunities for every season. For a real thrill, try snowmobiling across the surface of the infamous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, or fly to the secluded Westman Islands to get back to nature and witness incredible scenery, taking a RIB boat around the archipelago to spot the local puffin colonies.

Accommodation: Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik (3 nights)

  3. Days 4-8: Troll Peninsula

After three nights in the south, it's time to head north and fly to Akureyri, where the nearby Deplar Farm awaits. Remote, secluded and incredibly luxurious, this is the Icelandic wilderness at its best. Mouth-watering meals and snug beds combine to create a real home away from home, while the mind-blowing offering of experiences ensures every day is an action-packed adventure.

Nestled in the stunning Troll Peninsula, the opportunities around Deplar Farm are endless and your dedicated experience manager will help to create a bespoke itinerary tailored to your interests. Why not head north to the coastline and discover the area's phenomenal fjords, where a boat excursion offers the chance to spot humpback whales or even orcas in the waters below. Perhaps you'd rather get up close with Iceland's puffin population, snorkeling alongside these fascinating birds for a truly unique experience, or stay above the water as you kayak through the tranquil Siglufjordur.

After exploring this rugged and remote region, return to Deplar Farm to end your trip in real style, relaxing your adventure-weary legs in the revitalising spa.

    Accommodation: Deplar Farm (4 nights)

  4. Fly home from Akureyri (via Reykjavik)

Experiences

Perhaps Iceland's most famous volcano, Eyjafjallajökull makes for a thrilling snowmobile experience. Join your private guide as you ride across the surface of the glacier and take in the incredible views of Iceland's south coast.

  • Visit the Westman Islands

Head away from mainland Iceland to discover the fascinating Westman Islands, located just off the country's south coast. Take the ferry to Heimaey, the only inhabited island in the archipelago, and explore its dramatic landscape with your private guide.
