High season is generally December to April when it's warm and humid. The coastal location ensures that temperatures rarely exceed 30°C and generally do not fall below 13°C (night-time in July). Even in winter (June-September), when rates are lower, daytime temperatures usually reach 21°C. This can be a lovely time to visit as it is warm in the day, cooler at night and drier. Rainfall is a possibility throughout the year, but the peak summer months of January and February often experience heavier showers. Christmas, New Year, January, Carnival, Easter and Paraty's International Literary Festival (normally held in July) are high season and hotels will be busy.

This is the kind of place you could stay for days and just feel totally relaxed, with long leisurely breakfasts, a lovely heated pool, tons of lounge space and a seemingly endless book collection. Pousada Literaria feels much more like a hotel than a traditional pousada so is perfect for anyone who prefers all their creature comforts, and rooms are large and luxurious (above the standard category). Not all of the staff speak English, but all are willing to get someone who can help and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
The location is, in my opinion, the best in Paraty, right on the main commercial street in the historic center, but towards the quieter end. You never hear any disturbance but are close enough to the action if you want to get involved, dining at pavement cafes and indulging in local live music in the evenings.

A truly lovely boutique hotel right in the heart of Paraty's old town. I really loved my stay at Pousada Literaria, it's in such a great location to explore the charming cobbled streets of the town and a peaceful retreat when you simply want to relax.
The breakfasts are superb, and are served at any time of day, so if you want to have a lazy day and not eat your breakfast until 2pm, you can! Great if you've just come off a longhaul flight or you're partway through a busy itinerary. The rooms are comfortable and stylish, with a mattress that closer resembled sleeping in a cloud!
We had a lovely spa treatment one afternoon the spa is stunning and the therapists were delightful and really good at what they do; I felt a million times more relaxed afterwards. The spa manager was so lovely and welcoming.
This is a really charming small hotel, with friendly staff who couldn't have been more helpful in helping us plan activities in the area, comfortable rooms and great food - what more could you want?
