Los Cerros is a comfortable chalet-style hotel on the outskirts of El Chaltén in Argentina's breathtaking Patagonia region, amidst turquoise lakes, glaciers and towering mountains. A wonderful base for trekking and adventurous travelers.
Los Cerros is a quirky chalet-style hotel in El Chaltén town, which sits within Argentina's Los Glaciares National Park, which affords fabulous panoramic views of the Fitz Roy mountain range and the Río de las Vueltas. The three-storey hotel is rustic in character and in keeping with the surrounding countryside.
The 44 guest rooms are decorated in a simple and homely style, in warm red and green tones, with wood furnishings, and en-suite bathroom areas, many with hydro-massage baths. There are ample areas for relaxing dotted around the hotel including cosy living areas, a massage, sauna and Jacuzzi area, a bar and a restaurant serving delicious cuisine, featuring many regional flavors, including specialties such as Patagonian lamb and hare stew, accompanied by fine Argentine wines.
The area around El Chaltén is fantastic for climbing, hiking, rafting, trekking and visits to Viedma Glacier or the iconic Fitz Roy mountain. Los Cerros can assist with organising activities and there are numerous options to choose from, satisfying those who simply want some soft adventure to those looking for a real adrenaline rush.
Accommodation at Los Cerros is in 44 guest rooms, divided into Premium Rooms, Superior Rooms and El Chalten Rooms. The rooms are warmly decorated and all have picture windows to maximize the beautiful views. All rooms have a hydro-massage bath.
Children are welcome at Los Cerros. There are no specific children's facilities and we would recommend this as a destination more suited to older children due to the nature of the activities on offer in the area.
Facilities at Los Cerros include cosy living areas, a bar, small boutique, sauna and hydro-massage room and a restaurant serving delicious cuisine, with many Patagonian influences.
El Chaltén is a fantastic base for outdoor activities. Various options are available to guests staying at Los Cerros including trekking and climbing, mountain biking, kayaking, bird watching and boat trips to Glacier Viedma, where it is possible to go ice hiking, with the use of crampons and assisted by qualified guides.
Dark wood exteriors and a red zinc roof give Los Cerros a functional look. But there's a real buzz around the bar-restaurant inside, and huge views of the beautiful Las Vueltas valley. Young, friendly staff make Los Cerros a welcoming refuge after a trek in the Fitz Roy massif
The common room of our grand ranch-style hotel, Los Cerros, was full of dream-inducing books. There were history tomes, collections of indigenous myths, worthy ecology-focused essays, Darwin's Voyage of the Beagle and, of course, Bruce Chatwin's seminal travelogue In Patagonia.
There were also gorgeous coffee-table books full of sweeping landscapes and handsome, well-scrubbed gauchos, the iconic cowboys of Argentina. With a glass of Patagonian white in my hand and a fire crackling in the hearth, I could have stayed up all night turning the pages.
Mini Ice Trek: Perito Moreno
An exhilarating mini-trekking adventure across the vast Perito Moreno Glacier. Set with ropes and crampons, hike on a sea of ice amidst lakes, lagoons and mountains for stunning views of the Patagonian wilderness.
