The weather is good almost all year round in the north west in general. It’s warm and dry in winter (June to September) though it gets cold at night. Summer (December to February) is hot but all the rooms have air conditioning. Avoid the rainy season of February to March, when many of the roads to places you'll want to explore may be impassable due to flooding.

A short drive out of Cafayate takes you to the and very modern Grace Cafayate, set amongst acres on vineyards on a vast estate. Some may find it a little on the large size and the style a bit at odds with the character of the region but I have to say that it is an extremely comfortable base from which to explore the surrounding area - or to relax at after spending long days on the road traveling down from Salta. The rooms, suites and in villas and in particular the bathrooms are the most deluxe that I came across at any of the properties here - and there's a modern spa as well as both indoor and outdoor pools. The hotel has a good restaurant but I'd also recommend venturing out into town on at least one of your evenings, where you can explore the local market stalls and sit outside at one of the many restaurants overlooking the central plaza and soak up the atmosphere.
El Esteco Winery Tour & Tasting
Visit El Esteco, one of the most traditional wineries in the Cafayate region, famous for its distinctive Torrontés wines. Accompanied by a private guide you will explore the vineyards, learning about the history, as well as its production processes.
Full day Horseback riding in the Calchaqui Valley
This full day horseback riding adventure takes in the stunning landscapes of the highest part of the Colchaqui Valleys, surrounding the picturesque wine region of Cafayate. Enjoy lunch at a local winery, paired with the region's famous Torrontes wines.
