Elephant Pepper Camp is closed in April to Mid June.

The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.

Itinerary

Day 1 - 4
  • Lewa Conservancy, Kenya

    At a Glance

Day 1 – Arrival and the Wild Heart of Lewa Touch down in Nairobi and begin your journey north to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Your Scott Dunn concierge will whisk you through the city with ease before your light aircraft flight over vast savannah. Settle into the serene Elewana Kifaru House, surrounded by acacia-dotted plains. This afternoon, enjoy your first game drive—perhaps spotting rhino or Grevy’s zebra—with expert guides who tailor the pace to all ages. Evenings here are tranquil, with fireside stories and family dinners under the stars.

Day 2 – Rhinos, Rangers, and Conservation Secrets Awaken to golden light spilling across the Lewa plains. Today offers a deeper look into the conservancy’s pioneering conservation work—families can meet local rangers, visit the anti-poaching unit, or track endangered black rhino on a private drive. Younger explorers can join gentle bush walks to learn about animal tracks and plants. Back at Kifaru House, unwind by the pool or on the veranda, watching elephants amble by. The day closes with sundowners and shared wonder at Kenya’s thriving wild heart.

Day 3 – Exploring Lewa at Your Own Rhythm A day to follow your family’s rhythm. Take to the hills on horseback or camel, feeling part of the landscape, or join a morning drive in search of big cats. Today you might also leave the vehicle behind to explore the rich diversity of Lewa’s idyllic montane forest—enjoy a picnic by the river, a dip in azure pools, or a canopy walk spotting monkeys and the rare narina trogon. As the sun dips low, your guide finds the perfect spot for one last golden Lewa sunset.

Day 4 - 7
  • Maasai Mara

    At a Glance

Day 4 – From Savannah to the Mara After breakfast, fly south to the world-renowned Masai Mara. The flight alone is breathtaking—tracing the Rift Valley and the open plains below. You’ll be met at the airstrip and driven to Elewana Elephant Pepper Camp, a classic tented camp set within the Mara North Conservancy. This afternoon, enjoy your first Mara drive—wide horizons, elegant giraffes, and perhaps a lion family in the shade. Return to camp for lantern-lit dining and fireside stories beneath a vast sweep of stars.

Day 5 – The Great Migration and the Mara’s Magic Today is pure safari immersion. Venture out at dawn, when wildlife stirs and the air is cool. Your private guide will tailor the day—perhaps following the movement of the Great Migration, or pausing by a quiet riverbank for breakfast in the bush. Between adventures, relax back at camp with an easy lunch and time to rest. Later, as dusk settles, enjoy a final drive before returning for a relaxed evening filled with warmth, conversation, and family connection.

Day 6 – A Day in the Masai Mara National Reserve Set off for a full-day adventure into the Masai Mara National Reserve. This is the Africa of imagination—rolling grasslands and abundant wildlife at every turn. Expect close encounters with elephants, hippos, and dazzling birdlife. A picnic lunch beneath an acacia tree feels both simple and special. Your expert guide shares stories of the land and its people, bringing the Mara’s rhythm to life. As you return to camp, watch the landscape shift to gold—another memory for the family storybook.

Day 7 - 11
  • Lamu

    At a Glance

Day 7 – From Plains to Coast This morning, fly back to Nairobi, then onward to the Kenyan coast and the laid-back beauty of Manda Bay. A short boat ride across turquoise waters brings you to your island retreat, where palm trees and sea breezes replace the roar of lions. Settle into your beachfront villa, where everything moves at an easy, barefoot pace. Families can kayak, snorkel, or simply wander along the shore. As night falls, dine by candlelight to the sound of waves on the sand.

Day 8 – Coastal Adventure and Island Calm Wake to the scent of salt and frangipani. Days here unfold gently—perhaps an early morning sail on a traditional dhow, followed by snorkelling among coral reefs. Children might try paddleboarding or shell collecting with local guides. Parents can indulge in a massage or enjoy a quiet moment on the deck. As afternoon light softens, take a family boat trip through mangroves, spotting kingfishers and crabs. Evenings bring laughter, seafood feasts, and the easy rhythm of island life.

Day 9 – Family Freedom at Manda Bay Another unhurried day to do as you please. Try deep-sea fishing, explore Lamu’s narrow streets by dhow, or spend time with the lodge’s friendly team learning Swahili cooking. For families who’ve spent days on safari, the sea’s stillness feels restorative. Children can explore safely, while parents savour fresh coconut and conversation by the water. As the sky turns amber, gather together for a private beach dinner—barefoot, carefree, and deeply connected to Kenya’s coastal soul.

Day 10 – Rest, Reflection and Coastal Bliss Your final full day in paradise invites reflection. Take one last swim in the warm Indian Ocean or explore the coastline by bike. Many families choose to simply stay put—lounging in hammocks, watching dhows glide by. The Scott Dunn team ensures every detail is seamless, from sunset cocktails to a family movie beneath the stars. It’s a fitting end to a journey that’s balanced adventure with deep rest—a time to reconnect, laugh, and celebrate shared discovery.

Day 11 – Farewell to Kenya After a final breakfast by the beach, travel by boat to Lamu Airport and fly back to Nairobi. A private driver awaits to take you into the city for a relaxed final afternoon and dinner at the elegant Cave à Manger. Later, enjoy VIP airport assistance before your international flight. As you depart, you’ll carry with you the sounds, scents, and stories of Kenya—a journey where every detail was cared for, and every family member truly seen.
