Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

It is largely hot and dry throughout the year, making it a great destination to get away from European winters.

Summer extends from April to June. It is s the hottest season, with temperatures ranging from 32 degree C to 45 degree C, so not ideal for travel, although early April is a good time to get cheaper rates if you dont mind the temperature in the high 30s.

The second season - technically the "Monsoon" extends from July to September. The temperature drops slightly, and humidity increases. 90% of the rain can expect occurs during this period. Lakes and rivers will be higher from mountain run-off and flowers and grasses come to life, bringing added colour to the landscape.

The Post-monsoon period is from October to November. The average maximum temperature is 33 degree C to 38 degree C, and the minimum is between 18 degree C and 20 degree C. The official "season" for hotels in Rajasthan starts in October. It’s a great time to travel - warm and sunny during and perfect for exploring and relaxing.

The fourth season is "winter", and runs from December to March. With day time temperatures still in the high 20's during the day this a very popular time to travel. Hotels are at the their busiest over the Christmas and new year period. Be aware though that December and January can have very cool mornings and evening and we suggest taking some warm clothing. Whilst temperatures in the desert areas are always hot in the daytime, they become some of the coolest areas of the state once the sun goes down. It’s also fairly standard to expect some fog in the major cities of Northern Rajasthan and Delhi in December and January.

This itinerary leads you through Rajasthan in ultimate style staying exclusively in Taj Hotels. Relive the vivid heyday of the Indian Maharajas and stay in their former palaces that are now some of the most opulent and sumptuous hotels in the world. This journey through India is like no other; an adventure into India’s rich and colourful past. With private guides and unique experiences, you will venture through India in complete comfort and style.

  1. Days 1-3: Mumbai

Start in Mumbai for two nights staying at the first of five great palaces which make up this opulent itinerary. The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai belongs to the Taj Hotel Group and was the first flagship hotel built in 1903. Overlooking the majestic Gateway of India, from here you can explore the sprawling metropolis of Mumbai. Go shopping, visit the markets of Sassoon and Crawford and witness everyday life. The city is also home to some fantastic museums, galleries and antique shops.

Accommodation: Taj Mahal Palace (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-6: Udaipur

Next fly from Mumbai to Udaipur where you will have three nights at the unforgettable Taj Lake Palace. Situated in the middle of Lake Pichola, you will have stunning views over Udaipur which has to be the most picturesque city in India. With private dinners on your own pontoon on the lake, or a tour of Udaipur by private vintage car, you can truly live luxuriously here.

Accommodation: Taj Lake Palace (3 nights)

  3. Days 6-8: Jodhpur

Next you will fly on to Jodphur and a stay at Umaid Bhawan Palace for two wonderful nights. This grand palace was used in the filming of the popular film, Viceroy's House. One of the world's largest private residences, the 347 room palace is a sight to behold, and like many of the great palaces, is now managed by Taj Hotels. Spend time here and explore Jodphur, the Blue City.

Accommodation: Taj Umaid Bhawan Palace (2 nights)

  4. Days 8-11: Jaipur

From the Blue City of Jodphur you will fly on to the Pink City of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, and a stay at Taj Rambagh Palace. Once the hunting lodge of the Maharaja of Jaipur, it is the perfect base for three nights to explore this superb city. From the City Palace to Amber Fort, there are some amazing sights to explore here. Beyond this, why not try and explore the local artisan quarters on foot, which we can arrange for you with your private guide.

Accommodation: Taj Rambagh Palace (3 nights)

  5. Days 11-14: Hyderabad, India

Finally fly from Jaipur to Hyderabad, once the ruling seat of the most powerful Maharajas in India – the Nizams of Hyderabad. Built in the 19th century the Falaknuma Palace was meant as a guesthouse for visiting dignitaries, set high on a hill overlooking the city and designed in a similar style to the elaborate European palaces of the time. Another Taj Palace property think grand marble staircases, glittering chandeliers, priceless statues and works of art. Hyderabad is actually a wonderful city to explore, from the superb Golconda Fort, to the old British Residency, famous for the story behind the book ‘White Mughals’.

This wonderful mix of dramatic old palaces, and modern up to date facilities and service is really the only way to see India in true style. We have seen all the hotels, and know the best rooms and suites for you to stay in.
