The climate of Madhya Pradesh can be labelled tropical and monsoonal. Seasonal variations occur mainly in the form of three distinct seasons - summer, winter and monsoon.
Summer runs from April until June with temperatures reaching over 40°C during the day, while early mornings and evenings are pleasant, around 18-24°C. Rainfall is heavy in the monsoon season which lasts from mid-June until September. Winters are pleasant and the best time to travel is from October to March when game viewing in the national parks is at its best.
Please note the national parks in this region are closed during the monsoon season, from July until October.
To start planning your holiday to Sarai at Toria
The Sarai at Toria is a wonderfully luxurious but charmingly earth-friendly property situated on the banks of the Ken River and just outside Panna Tiger Reserve, you will be cocooned by wildlife, culture and beautiful scenery.
The Sarai at Toria was set up by a husband and wife partnership Joanna and Raghu who have visions for conservation and a passion for wildlife. They are both also enthusiastic foodies so the cuisine here is a major focus of their hospitality.
The property is based on the Ken River amidst beautiful unspoilt countryside which stretches out for as far as the eye can see from the homely little cottages that you will be staying in. There are options for alfresco dining all around the property and lovely hideaway areas for reading and relaxing in the small patch of forest behind the cottages.
Some people may prefer to laze around at The Sarai at Torai, soaking up the landscape and wandering around the surrounding area spotting all the magnificent wild life. For others there are all sorts of interesting options for exploration and adventure within a stone's throw of the camp, such as village walks, boat trips up the river, bird watching walks and game drives in Panna National Park which is only 5-minutes away by Jeep.
The Sarai at Toria was designed to celebrate nature and the traditional style of the local people. As such your cottage is made entirely out of mud, with a thatched roof in keeping with the surrounding area. Your room has no air conditioning but will stay cool throughout the year due to the lovely thick mud walls. The property remains small and personal, hosted with a community feel by Joanna and Raghu, who encourage everyone to gather for drinks before supper and dine together on their delicious home grown organic food.
The Sarai at Toria comprises eight independent cottage rooms, which have been designed in keeping with their wild surroundings. Each room features their own bathroom, veranda and private courtyard. Four of the cottages are also suitable for families, offering mezzanine bed spaces which are ideal for children.
Children are welcome at Sarai at Toria and will this rural setting. There are four cottages at Sarai at Toria which have a mezzanine level which is great for families travelling together.
Sarai at Torai is based on the banks of the river Ken. There is a large dining and lounge area that sits overlooking the river and towards Panna Tiger Reserve. Spread over nine acres of undulating land with the river on one side and a small forest patch at the back, they can provide many lovely corners for hideaway reading and relaxation and for private al fresco meals.
From sightseeing to world heritage sites, excursions into the Panna Tiger reserve and treks to the nearby Ajaygarh Fort, it is hard to get bored at Sarai at Torai. Back at the property they offer boat rides and fishing on the pristine Ken river, walks through the crop fields of the surrounding countryside and birding on site or at nearby forest and wetland areas.
