What food and drink can I expect on an Athens, Greece holiday?

Athens is a feast for the senses, with a host of local delicacies to try from the home of one of the world's most loved cuisines.

Souvlaki (skewered meat cooked on a grill) or gyros (meat cooked on a rotisserie and shaved) are must-haves served in fluffy, warm pittas – they're great for kids. Alternatively, filo pastry pies are commonly filled with feta or halloumi and extras such as spinach; also known as spanakopita.
