Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate with year-round heat, although the southeast trade winds help it never to feel too muggy. The summer months are from December to April, when it can nevertheless be extremely humid, and the winter, such as it is, runs from May to November, and is cooler and drier.

The best months to visit Mauritius are May to early December. January and February, the peak cyclone months, are best avoided by water-sports enthusiasts and divers. Cyclones rarely hit Mauritius (although Rodrigues has suffered far more regularly than the mainland) but cyclones way out at sea can bring days of squally rain.

Coastal temperatures range between 25°C and 33°C in summer and between 18°C and 24°C in winter. On the plateau it will be some 5°C cooler. The highlands are also the wettest part of the island – it can rain here at any time of year, and even when it’s not raining the area can be cloaked in low-lying cloud. When the winds are at their strongest in July and August it can be blustery on the east coast, though the breeze brings welcome relief in summer.

Apart from the Christmas-New Year peak, Mauritius doesn’t really have high and low seasons. The situation is more dependent on outside factors (such as the French school holidays, which cause a big increase in demand and prices in August).

Am I allowed to have favourites? Because One&Only Le Saint Geran would be it! Every box gets ticked with this resort from exceptional service, a brilliant beach and stunning design. The resort also has a wonderful buzz both during the day with families/friends enjoying all the resort has to offer and during the night with live music each evening, making every moment of your holiday something to remember.  Top tip? If guests are looking for more peace and quiet, request a room away from the main area. Music can be quite loud.

The recent refurbishment of the hotel is cleverly done, bringing all the surrounding outside elements inside with a bright and fresh beach feel and all the comforts you could wish for. When can I go back?

Having been fortunate enough to experience a good variety of luxury hotels it gets easy to be fussy and critical on what are often only minor issues, however Ive been trying to find a fault in One&Only Le Saint Geran and have failed miserably! Their recent refurbishment was clearly worth every penny as the resort is looking glorious. Everything throughout the resort is wonderfully tasteful; its the epitome of luxury with everything feeling light, bright, and just a little bit glitzy. The service was attentive but not intrusive, and everything just seemed to be ticking along without a hitch. Its so family friendly with a great kids club and a good awareness of family requirements throughout the hotel, but also makes the ideal honeymoon destination. In general, its just a fantastic all rounder   a little blissful haven of luxury that I was far from ready to leave!

The original luxury 5* hotel on the Island, Le Saint Geran still holds every bit of its charm and it's easy to see why it is still one of the most popular getaways in Mauritius. I loved the way you feel as you are surrounded by nature whilst in the hotel, a river running through one of the wings epitomises this and you feel as though you are in a tropical paradise. The 1.5km stretch of beach for me was definitely one of the best I had seen in Mauritius and looked immaculate. What also really warmed to me about Le Saint Geran was the real buzz to the place without ever feeling crowded - a definite favourite!

The oldies are the goodies and this is so true with Le Saint Gran. Celebrating her 40th birthday this year, this timeless classic is set on one of the islands loveliest beaches. Every time I have visited there has always been an incredible atmosphere and the resorts resident band the Famous Nine are there most evenings ensuring that the atmosphere is enjoyed by all. The classically styled suites are spacious and all have views of the water. Food and service are impeccable and I would not hesitate to recommend this property to those seeking a touch of class with a warm and friendly atmosphere.

This property is well established on the East Coast of Mauritius and set within 60 acres on a peninsula with 1.5km of sandy beach. The accommodation is in an older style, with traditional wicker furniture in the rooms. There are plenty of activities on offer at the fantastic water sports centre from water-skiing, see through kayaking and sailing. The excellent kids club, large main pool, sandy beach and child friendly accommodation makes this brilliant for families.

Alice Moseley (Staff)

Set within 60 acres of land in the north west of the island, boasting some amazing sunsets during the evening, and for those early risers equally fantastic sunrises. The hotel has 1.5km of sandy beach to enjoy. The hotel is traditional in style but fantastic service like any other One and Only hotel. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, a great kids club with sea views and just around the corner from the water sports centre with endless activities; clear bottom kayaks, sailing, waterskiing and cycling on water!

I loved Le Saint Gran. The rooms are a little on the traditional side for my personal taste, but with their ongoing policy of refreshing the rooms every 100 days, they are still impeccably turned out, and with all the mod-cons and amenities you would expect from a hotel of this standard. Although I didn't get the chance to dine there, the selection on offer is fabulous. Heading up their Basoi Restaurant, is the first Indian Chef to be awarded a Michelin star. Children will enjoy their children's club and Nipper swimming lessons, and adults will appreciate the impeccable service, meaning that you truly can relax on your holiday.

This Mauritian retreat doesn't shout about its credentials - despite having an astonishing number of them. From the moment you drive through the elaborate gates you will be offered a truly One&Only experience. The accommodation is marvellously simple here offering just junior and ocean suites and an almighty villa, which is simply designed to impress. The suites are elegantly colonial in style offering mahogany furniture, marble bathrooms and crisp cotton bed sheets. The majority of the rooms look over the main pool, which is made up of an intricate maze of walkways and bridges and onwards to the beach. The beach I may add is quite breathtaking here and a perfect place to showcase your new Missoni bikini. If you are foodie you will be spoilt for choice as the hotel offers a collection of incredible dining experiences. For me, my culinary highlight was enjoying a waterside table at Indian Restaurant, Rasoi by Vineet, surrounded by beautiful white swans... it was the perfect ending to my stay here where everyone, swans included, seemed absolutely committed to offering a unique and blissfully seamless experience.
