In the southern half of Australia the seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere: spring comes in September, summer is from December to February, autumn runs from March to May, and winter begins in June.

Byron Bay is in northern New South Wales and has one of the best climates in the country. Mild all year round with particular warm and dry weather between October and April although it is still possible to enjoy the outdoors in the winter months. Whale-watching season is from May to October.

Winter (June-Aug) is high season in Queensland; the water can be chilly - at least to Australians - but its temperature rarely drops below 22°C. April through October is peak visibility time for divers. Summer is hot and sticky across the state. In North Queensland the monsoonal Wet season is from November or December through March or April. It brings heavy rains, high temperatures, extreme humidity, and cyclones. It's no problem to visit then, and the Wet or "Green" season allows an unusual opportunity to explore this region during a truly balmy time of monsoonal calms.

Itinerary

Day 1-4

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Sydney is a true paradise for teenage families. From the historical rocks district littered with boutique shops, cafes and street galleries to the expansive botanical gardens full of wild flora and fauna, this city is made for everyone. After taking a splash in the Four Seasons stunning swimming pool you are in the best location to head out and explore the city. Burn off some of that excess energy and defy the skies and summit the Sydney Harbour Bridge for epic views across Sydney or take to the water for a lunchtime cruise through the cities famous harbour – a must when in Sydney.  We’ve included a surf lesson on the world-famous Bondi Beach for the whole family.  After getting kitted out and learning the basics upon the sand you’ll head out into the water and in no time sure to be riding a wave like the Bondi locals, you will all be pros before you know it.

Whilst in Sydney you must experience the iconic harbour from the water, on a splendid motor yacht you will be whisked to the lesser know coves and beaches of the harbour, where you can all swim and kayak until your hearts content before refuelling the whole gang at the delicious bbq lunch prepared for you on the beach.

Accommodation: Four Seasons Hotel Sydney ( 3 nights )
Day 4-7

Byron Bay, Queensland, Australia

The easy-going hippie town of Byron Bay in northern New South Wales is your next port of call. The most easterly town on mainland Australia, Byron Bay is known for its excellent surf beaches, a huge variety of accommodation from boutique resorts to new-age retreats as well as hedonistic cafes and art galleries.  A melting pot of cultures and activities here you can opt to hike up to Byron’s famous lighthouse for panoramic views of Australia’s eastern coastline. We have also included a kayaking with dolphins experience which is not to be missed. Why not take a day trip out into the hinterlands or simply explore the towns boho shops and free-spirited bars and cafes.

Accommodation: Crystalbrook Byron ( 3 nights )
Day 7-10

Port Douglas, Australia

Leap to your next and final (but no means least) leg of this trip. Flying from Hamilton Island to Cairns your next destination is the oldest rainforest in the world, the Daintree National Park and the Great Barrier Reef.  Staying at the Thala Beach Nature Reserve where the views from of this World Heritage coastline are second to none. Located where the Daintree Rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef, Thala’s deluxe timber frame bungalows blend into the vegetation and provide a luxurious sense of privacy. There is a spectacular 2km sandy beach and secluded coves as well as the diverse nature of the rainforest to explore and, of course, the largest coral reef in the world is yours to discover. A true barefoot, rustic experience.

Teach the family about Aboriginal hunter—gatherer techniques and see some of Australia’s unique wildlife on your included full day privately guided tour of the Daintree Rainforest which includes jungle surfing through the dense canopy, and a cruise down the Daintree River where you will be on the lookout for resident saltwater crocodiles. Explore the boardwalks and beaches that bridge the rainforest and the reef as you hear tails from your guide about the history of the region. Explore Cape Tribulation and learn about the historical significance of its name before retreating to a secluded rainforest waterhole where you can take a dip in the crystal-clear waters. The whole family will be amazed during this treat of a day out.

In addition there are boat trips to the Great Barrier Reef, scuba diving, private guided rainforest walks, nearby golf, sea kayaking, turtle spotting, yoga and meditation sessions and cooking lessons, so there is most definitely something to there to keep everyone happy.

Accommodation: Thala Beach Nature Reserve ( 3 nights )
