As part of its quest to bring back the glamour and luxury to train travel, Anantara has introduced a 12-seat reservation-only carriage on the train line between Da Nang and Quy Nhon. While the carriage forms part of a regular Vietnamese Railways train, there is nothing regular about this exclusive experience, which includes a three-course meal, along with a head and shoulder massage.

With interiors inspired by Indochina, the front of the carriage is divided into six ‘rooms,’ each seating two passengers in plush comfortable seats across a table. The ‘rooms’ are separated by rattan dividers providing privacy without compromising on space. The large windows are perfect for immersing yourself in the landscape, history, and culture of this attractive part of South-Central Vietnam. To increase your comfort, passengers will find a little basket underneath each seat containing a neck pillow, eye mask, blanket, and slippers. There is also onboard Wi-Fi and access to plug sockets under the table.

Located in the middle of the carriage is the bar area. Designed for socialising, the semi-circular black marble counter has several leather bar stools, where you can relax and chat to fellow passengers over a drink. The far end of the carriage includes the bathroom and massage room. All passengers can enjoy a 20-minute head and shoulder massage, ideal for ironing out any tension.
After boarding, passengers enjoy a drink and pastry, as the train speeds through the glorious Vietnamese countryside. The highlight of the journey is the three-course meal which showcases both Vietnamese and French cuisine. Passengers select their dishes at the time of booking and options might include seafood salad, duck confit, Wagyu beef, Da Lat strawberries, passionfruit tart and crème brulée made with Dong Nai chocolate.
Passengers can enjoy selected free onboard drinks including craft beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee, and an assortment of teas. For an additional charge, fine wines, champagne, caviar, and a cheese platter are also available.
The Vietage runs twice a day from Da Nang to Quy Nhon and back again, with each journey lasting around 6-hours. We would recommend taking the train from Da Nang to make the journey during daylight and take full advantage of the views. If you start the journey from Quy Nhon, you will not reach Da Nang until 2am. For night travel, each of the ‘rooms,’ converts to a sleeper booth for one. Passengers can also take advantage of accommodation offers combining a journey on the Vietage with a stay at Anantara’s Hoi An and Quy Nhon properties.
