Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Aspen has an extreme continental climate with very cold winters and warm summers. Activities are very seasonal. Spring, from late April to June, is marked by mild days and cold nights, with some rain and occasional snow. Summers offer warm days and cool nights and a profusion of brightly coloured wildflowers. Expect blue sky days with occasional short afternoon showers. Outdoor adventure and an abundance of art, culture and music events, many of which are free, attract visitors to Aspen in the summer. The first big event of the year being the Food and Wine Classic scheduled towards end of June, with events running through September.

In autumn, the aspen and cottonwood run gold and red displaying a spectacular fall show. The days are sunny, with cold nights. Rain eventually gives way to snow. Winter brings with it enough deep snow to keep a skier happy well into April.

Famous as possibly the very best of all the hotels in Aspen, the Little Nell has been a staple of Aspen society with the best location right next to the mountain gondola, for many years. Probably best known for it's winter society, the Little Nell is still glorious in the summer.  With it's pool and deck looking over the mountains, fabulous Concierge service offering a plethora of activities and superb service, you can see why this place is hard to beat.  You really can't fault it.  From the welcome arrival, being greeted by name and escorted up to your room by a very friendly bellman through to the "nothing is too much trouble" attitude, this place has it right.  The rooms are contemporary, perhaps lacking a little warmth but are huge and each has a nice fireplace to warm up in front of on cooler days.  I relaxed in well and the bed was wonderfully comfy and the whole feel peaceful.  Breakfast was divine, service top notch once again and attentive without feeling over the top, something hard to get right. Some may feel that the Little Nell is a little too showy for them, it isn't what I would call low key, however, if you want the best service, best location and to be very looked after, this is the place to be.

Not only is The Little Nell the hotel to stay in for ski holidays with its ski-in ski-out facilities, it is a top choice for summer visitors to Aspen due to its location in town for ease of walking out to all the fabulous boutiques, cafes, restaurants and museums, just a short stroll away.

The hotel also houses two of Aspen's best restaurants; Ajax Tavern and Element 47 are both extremely popular with locals, so advance reservations are a must!

James Ferguson (Staff)

Over the last 20 years The Little Nell has gained a reputation as a very special place to stay in a very special resort.

It is the only ski-in ski-out property in Aspen itself, and the concierge service means that everything is easy; from planning excursions and meals to making sure your boots are warmed and your ski edges sharpened each morning.

Like the resort itself, Little Nell is unpretentious but offers top quality service.

This hotel is possibly in the best location - cornering the bottom of the Ajax mountain, you can walk 3 ft to the piste or hop in one of the cars to take you to another mountain. This truly is the 5* luxury way to enjoy Aspen, the rooms are lovely and spacious and the mountain view rooms have an incredible view. Its great location means you can also walk to the shops and restaurants in town very easily.

Kate Newman (Staff)

Right at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola, The Little Nell is the only true ski-in ski-out property in Aspen, with the most sought-after tables in town when the sun is shining. If you still have room left for dinner, then Element 47 serves Colorado-focused but globally inspired cuisine, with a staff of 25 sommeliers on hand to help select an excellent wine to suit any meal choice.
