Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Year round destination. Because the Hill Country it so high up it rarely gets unbearably hot. The months of December to April are probably the best time to visit, as temperatures rise to around 28C during the day but cool down at night. During the monsoon season from October to December you can expect heavy downpours. June to September are the driest months here, when there’s almost no rain at all.

Itinerary
This easy but unique journey to Sri Lanka is great for families with children with a private guide and driver included throughout. Carefully designed, it avoids too much driving around but it brilliantly blends lots of time exploring the hills and national parks with time to relax and play on a family friendly beach.

Fly to Colombo
-
Days 1-4: Hatton
Begin your journey in a lovely converted tea bungalow, perched above the tea country. Three nights here helps you unwind after the flight, taking life slow. Here we can arrange treasure hunts through the spice plantations, but also walks through the tea fields, trips to the local tea factory and learning to cook. Older kids can enjoy white water rafting and go hiking.
Accommodation: Camellia Hills (3 nights)
-
Days 4-6: Yala National Park
From here you'll be whisked off to Yala National Park; home to one of the highest concentrations of leopards in the world, Yala is also a fantastic habitat for elephants, deer and sloth bear. Over your two nights, enjoy time exploring in your jeep on enthralling game drives, going in search of these illusive creatures.
Accommodation: Chena Huts (2 nights)
-
Days 6-12: Tangalle
Not far, just around the corner on the coast, you’ll have six nights in Tangalle. Enjoy cycling through the coconut groves and playing on the expansive beach. At certain times of year it's possible to see turtles hatching along this coast.
Accommodation: Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort (6 nights)
-
Days 12-13: Sri Lanka's West Coast
To end your family holiday, head back to Colombo for one night so that it is just a short flight back to the airport for your onward flight home.
Accommodation: The Wallawwa (1 night)
