Wilpattu, widely considered one of Sri Lanka's hidden gems, is the country's oldest national parks. Here spot leopard, sloth bear, jackal, wild boar, deer and an array of different bird species. The team at Wilpattu Safari Camp will organise both morning and evening safaris in their Toyota Land cruiser. Comfortable and perfect for sightings, you can sit back and enjoy the adventure around the park.
The camp itself is very eco-friendly, fitted with solar powered lighting and even equipped with charging points and Wi-Fi throughout. The accommodation is made up of four different tents complete with a fully-equipped bathroom, ensuring even the most fainthearted camper feels at home.
Each meal is cooked by the chef, who can easily cater to your dietary requirements and your timings. Enjoy a selection of Sri Lankan delicacies after your drive, some fresh juice in the heat of the day or a night cap after your evening meal. There is a varied menu of both Sri Lankan and international dishes and all food and drink is included during your stay. Sit down together for dinner in the covered dining area, listening out to the noises of the wilderness beyond, before cosying up around the campfire for some storytelling. Great for families, nature lovers and safari novices a like, Wilpattu is a magical place waiting to be discovered.
There are four safari tents at Wilpattu Safari Camp, each sleeping up to four people. Each tent features a verandah area, main bedroom complete with a king sized bed and an attached bathroom. All bathrooms include flushing toilets and hot showers. The tents are also equipped with charging points to ensure your camera won't run out of battery on your drives.
Children are welcome at Wilpattu Safari Camp where they can delight in the wonderful wildlife of Sri Lanka.
Tucked away between flourishing rice fields, the camp has been built with the environment in mind. Within the open space of the camp you'll find a large covered dining area where you will enjoy delicious fresh cooked meals. All food and drink is included in your stay; guests will be served a mix of both Sri Lankan delicacies and international dishes. Later, enjoy telling stories around the campfire, listening out for sounds of Wilpattu's wildlife in the distance.
During your time at Wilpattu Safari Camp you will have plenty of opportunities to explore Wilpattu National Park. Normally guests are taken on both a evening safari after some lunch at camp and then on an early morning safari when the camp is alive with wildlife. It's an early start; wake up at 5am for hot drink before heading to the park's gates in time for opening. Later, feast upon a breakfast picnic of freshly prepared sandwiches, fruit, tea and coffee on your safari.

I enjoyed a truly wonderful safari experience at Wilpattu Safari Camp. Everything ran so smoothly from start to finish, this is a truly wild but comfortable camping experience. Namal's knowledge and dedicated team made for a extremely enjoyable trip, you can see the passion and attention to detail from the food, the luxurious tents complete with a fully working showers and flushing toilets. It was an unique experience I will remember for a long time.
