From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half. The southwest has the highest rainfall – up to 4000mm a year. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C. The sea stays at around 27°C all year. Climatically speaking, the driest (and best) seasons in Sri Lanka are from December to March for the west and south coasts.

Set on the south coast of Sri Lanka, Owl and the Pussycat is one of Sri Lanka's newest boutique hotels. Owl and the Pussycat is a luxury seaside retreat with a modern yet laid back feel offering plenty of activities and cultural experiences for all.
The Owl and the Pussycat is an lively seaside resort with a modern yet authentic Sri Lankan feel. Named after the famous children's poem The Owl and The Pussycat, it offers guests the perfect beach hideaway.
Cleverly designed by renowned architect Uday Dhar, the hotel is filled with colourful artwork handcrafted by artists from all over the world as well as local craftsmen. Here guests will feel at home in the generously sized rooms or alternatively you can choose from a range of different suites with views overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Perfect for those who love the coast, there is plenty of activities on offer in this area to keep you entertained including swimming with turtles, learning to fish with local stilt fishermen and an array of water sports. Alternatively, unwind by the pool with a book or enjoy a drink at the beach shack with its sociable and relaxed local atmosphere. Measuring 34sqm, the Garden View Room offers guests outside areas with garden views and easy access to the beach.

Measuring 42sqm, the Large Sea View Room includes a spacious terrace over-looking the ocean.
The Premium Suites measure 60sqm and have two ocean-view terraces.
The Luxury Suites measure 80sqm and offer two ocean-view terraces and kitchen.
OTP Suites measure 100sqm located on the upper or garden level offering ocean-view terraces, kitchen and the possibility to interconnect to a Garden-view room.
The facilities at Owl and The Pussycat include the hotel's restaurant which offers a mix of traditional and Mediterranean cuisine where guests can sample some delicious delicacies. Elsewhere there is a bar, café and lively beach shack serving up cocktails under the coconut trees. Unwind here with a signature cocktail in hand watching the sun go down.
Owl and The Pussycat offers an array of water sports including sailing, surfing, diving and paddle-boarding. Guests also have the chance to swim with turtles and even learn how to fish from the local stilt fisherman. Owl and The Pussycat is found on the southern coast of Sri Lanka in Thalpe. From here Galle is a short trip by tuc tuc where you can explore the 17th century fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with narrow streets lined with Dutch and British colonial era buildings and a growing collection of art galleries. Travelling inland, you can also visit a number of lovely temples passing rice paddy fields and tea/cinnamon plantations along the way.
