The Maha monsoon blows from October to January, bringing rain to the North and East, while the dry season is from May to September. The North and East are comparatively dry, with around 1000mm of rain annually. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. Out-of-season travel has its advantages – not only do the crowds go away but many airfares and accommodation prices drop right down. Nor does it rain all the time during the low season.

There are a total of six rooms and suites at Living Heritage Koslanda. Three suites all linked by a veranda are located on higher ground overlooking the central dining and relaxation Ambalama and have wonderful views of the surrounding hills. Each has a private courtyard with TV, sound system and WiFi, outdoor jacuzzi and hot water garden shower. The fourth suite is located away from the main building in its own cottage or gatehouse that allows a great deal of privacy; it is referred to as the deluxe room. There is one Deluxe room category situated in the gatehouse which makes for a beautiful hideaway, with more privacy but forfeits the views. It has a double bedroom, en-suite bathroom and private garden and its own Ambalama in the garden for relaxing. Finally, there are also two Forest Pavilion rooms cantilevered out over the treetops, ideal for anyone wanting something a little different. Theses two rooms are bamboo-lined and feature open-air bathrooms.

Children are welcome at Living Heritage Koslanda, but please be aware there are no specific facilities for them.

The property has a beautiful infinity pool and one restaurant. All the rooms are fully equipped with wifi and outside Jacuzzi.

Living Heritage is perfectly located to explore tea plantations to the North and National Parks to the South. The hotel will organise many walking tours for you depending on what your interests are. One particular favourite being a day trip to the local waterfall with a picnic.

Heading into the foot hills of the Tea Country you will find Koslanda Living Heritage nestled into the jungle forest. This 6 bedroom property was designed to resemble a Sri Lankan Wallawwa using local resources, so you will have a very authentic experience. From the hotel you can explore the local area from waterfalls to tea plantations giving you plenty of opportunity to explore the great outdoors. The food is very traditional so this is a great place to try some of the local delicacies and talk to the local staff about life in rural Sri Lanka.

Fell completely in love with this place! Peaceful and tucked away, beautiful secret I felt privileged to experience. All rooms were well-appointed and great options, each having their benefits, loved the courtyards off the suites. However the Deluxe room near the gate also benefits from a secluded location and being closer to the swimming pool. During my stay at Living Heritage I was lucky enough to have three fantastic meals (mixture of Sri Lankan and western cuisine) and explored the surrounding jungle (rewarded with a swim in the local waterfall). My only concern is that for older or less able guests the pool is up a fairly long flight of steps.

The rooms here are huge, with amazing amounts of outside space, and even a Jacuzzi. I thought it was truly beautiful and a great stopping point on your way down to the South Coast.

Living Heritage Kosanda is a tranquil retreat in beautiful surrounds. The buildings have been lovingly designed with traditional Sri Lankan architecture in mind having used local materials and time-honoured craftsmanship. The views are stunning and the hike into the surrounding forest to the waterfall is well worth the effort and rewarded by a swim in the natural pools. The suites in the main building have wonderful views and are more spacious than the one deluxe room in the Gatehouse, which does have the advantage of more privacy.
