Average time to visit

There is no bad time to go on safari in the Kruger National Park. The experience does, however, change from month to month. In the summer months (October to March), it gets very hot. The verdant vistas are all the more spectacular because of the rains, but this means that the foliage is denser, water is more abundant and game is therefore trickier to see. There are lots of beautiful migratory birds during the summer months. While the daytime temperature in the winter months (May to September) is ideal, it does get a little chilly at night and in the early morning.

Deep in the Kruger, hugging the banks of the Klaserie River, the Last Word Kitara is an intimately serene and elegant safari lodge where South Africa’s giants roam. Unveil the magic of the bush in laid back luxury for an unsurpassed wildlife experience.

Only opening in late 2019, The Last Word Kitara blends contemporary luxury with a natural style for a safari with a difference. The lodge is set on the banks of the Klaserie River with lush gardens for relaxing in.

Built of stone with thatch roofs, the six luxury suites have been tastefully decorated in neutral shades with hints of colour that have been inspired by the surrounding African bush. The suites are spacious with king size beds, two comfortable armchairs and en-suite bathrooms which feature both an indoor and an outdoor shower together with a separate Victorian style bath.

The main lodge building includes generous lounge areas and an inside bar opening up onto a generous patio area complete with a refreshing infinity pool built overlooking the riverbed. Offering both indoor and outdoor dining options together with a boma area guests will enjoy delectable cuisine and a choice of fine wines during their stay.

The lodge is run by an experienced management team and guests will enjoy immersing themselves in the magic of the Klaserie during morning and evening game drives on open safari vehicles or they can get back to nature during guided safari walks.
The Last Word Kitara combines quiet luxury with attentive service and is the perfect safari destination for those looking for an authentic South African safari.
