Average time to visit

There is no bad time to go on safari in the Kruger National Park. The experience does, however, change from month to month. In the summer months (October to March), it gets very hot. The verdant vistas are all the more spectacular because of the rains, but this means that the foliage is denser, water is more abundant and game is therefore trickier to see. There are lots of beautiful migratory birds during the summer months. While the daytime temperature in the winter months (May to September) is ideal, it does get a little chilly at night and in the early morning.

Savanna Private Game Reserve is situated in the world renowned Sabi Sands Game Reserve, bordering South Africa's famous Kruger National Park. Savanna lodge is an excellent choice for those seeking a relaxed home from home atmosphere and great guiding.

Savanna lodge comprises nine beautifully appointed tented suites combining the romance of a tented roof and draped inner ceiling, with the sophistication of a permanent structure that ensures luxury and privacy.

There are four luxury suites all under canvas and nestled into the surrounding indigenous trees. The rooms are cosy and compact but have all the facilities found in the larger suites. Each have ensuite bathrooms with free standing baths and separate showers. The bedrooms are stylishly decorated and all have their own private deck with plunge pools and views out over the surrounding woodland. The three executive suites have canvas roofs set on top of concrete walls creating an authentic safari ambience with added comfort. Each suite has a large bathroom with free standing bath and double shower as well as an outdoor shower. For the ultimate relaxation each suite has their own private plunge pool and small deck area with sun loungers , perfect for cooling off after a morning game drive. The two bedroom Savanna suite is the prefect option for small groups or families travelling together. The two rooms are separated by a large lounge which opens out onto a deck area to enjoy dinning under the stars. Both bedrooms have their own private deck with private plunge pools for ultimate privacy.

The lodge facilities include a dining room with one large farmhouse dinning table where meals are served. There is also a large lounge area and bar as well as a wooden deck overlooking a waterhole where some of Africa’s impressive wildlife comes down to drink. Full English breakfasts and lunches are served on the open-air verandah, and some nights dinner will be served in the starlit boma, or in a unique South African Railways dining carriage, built in 1914 which sits on railway tracks in the garden.

Morning and afternoon game drives give guests the opportunity to enjoy first class game viewing in an area of 10,000 hectares. Regular sightings of the big five are common as well as good populations of cheetah, wild dog and over 400 different bird species. For those who want to experience the flora and fauna, guided walks make a great alternative and give guests the chance to learn about the smaller creatures often overlooked from the game vehicle.
