The Northern Cape is the second largest province in South Africa and it shares its northern border with Namibia. As a result, the area is mostly dry and arid and receives under 400mm of rainfall each year. However, places such as Namaqualand and the Green Kalahari are blessed with a higher concentration of winter rains which means that between July and October, visitors will find the ground covered with beautiful flowering fynbos, for which the region is so well known for. The vast area that the Northern Cape covers means there is varied topography and fluctuating temperatures, during the summer months, day temperatures tend to hover around 35-40°C (95-104°F). In the winter, days remain fairly warm, but temperatures at night can drop significantly.
