Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Due to the remote, exposed location of the island, the lighthouse is not available during winter months. Stays are possible between April and October.
For the warmest temperatures of the year and most hours of sunshine; visit Ålesund during the summer months of May through to August. September is a charming time to visit too with the beginning of the stunning Autumn colours and it is slightly less busy.

Description
Located on a private island just a one-hour boat trip from Ålesund, Flatflesa Lighthouse offers a wonderfully remote experience. The lighthouse has a total of 8 rooms across the main lighthouse and annex, making for the perfect family or group getaway.
Flatflesa was a fully-manned lighthouse from 1902 to 1988, where lighthouse keepers resided in the buildings on the island. The lighthouse is still fully functional, however nowadays an automated set-up means the building no longer needs to be manned 24/7. After a full restoration this cosy lighthouse is now a great spot to spend a night or two in a remote setting, with just the lapping of the waves and birdsong to keep you company.
The lighthouse comes equipped with a stunning outdoor wood-fired hot tub, seamlessly blending in the landscape, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding ocean. There is also a natural seawater pool, a sauna and relaxation room, making this the ideal place to strip away the stress and strain of daily life and get back to nature.
The lighthouse comes fully staffed, with chefs and serving staff on hand to serve up delicious local fare including, of course, wonderfully-fresh seafood. All of the rooms are elegantly decorated in a homely style with fine textiles and comfortable wonderland mattresses. The muted colours of the rooms ensure that the star of the show is the endless sea views you can enjoy from each window.
During the day there are a number of activities you can do from here, a highlight being the fishing opportunities, where you can even catch crab directly on your doorstep! You may also wish to visit the quaint local fishing villages of Ona and Bjørnsund.
This unique stay would make an excellent addition to any itinerary and is something truly memorable for a special occasion. Due to the exposed location the lighthouse is available for stays between April and October, as high winds during the winter months may lead to challenging conditions.
Facilities
Flatflesa is designed for private, exclusive-use stays with shared dining and bathroom facilities, making it perfect for a either group or family travelling together, or for those who are seeking ultimate privacy. There is an outdoor hot tub, a sauna and a relaxation room. All meals are served in your dining room.
