Summer and winter in Oslo are polar opposites; in the summer it hardly gets dark and the weather is very warm and pleasant with sunshine continuously both day and night! There is more chance of rain in the spring and summer season but the sun is a more regular occurrence.

Winter in Norway is much colder and Oslo will be transformed into a snowy winter wonderland. Take warm clothes and there isn't anything to stop you carrying on with your holiday with relative ease and comfort. Bear in mind it is dark a lot of the day as well as night.

The vibrant Thief hotel in Oslo features modern decor and design combining style with Norwegian architecture and bold statements.

The Thief has a superb location on the island of Tjuvholmen, meaning Thief Island. Once a unpopular part of town home to thieves and criminals, Tjuvholmen is now one of the smartest areas boasting contemporary art galleries, modern accommodation complete with decked rooftops and polished restaurants, all on the water's edge overlooking the Oslofjord.

The Thief's curator has carefully selected an enviable contemporary art collection that fits perfectly in its surroundings next to the Astrup Fearnley Gallery, with whom they share some prized pieces being one of the gallery's biggest sponsors.

The 140 rooms, all have king size doubles, there are no twin options, however separate bedding can be provided and a Hollywood Twin made up. The spacious marble bathrooms have showers and/or baths and are fitted out with all the mod-cons, including Nespresso coffee machines. Each has its own small private balcony with views ranging from the surrounding architecturally-pleasing buildings, such as the Astrup Fearnley Gallery to the canals and harbour of Tjuvholmen and the fjord beyond. The rooms and suites are decorated with rich colours, sumptuous fabrics and soft furnishings from velvet cushions to Norwegian woollen rugs. The end result is a chic, decadent but cosy atmosphere and a luxurious haven to come back to after a day in the city.

There are two restaurants; Thief Foodbar which serves relaxed classics in Spring, Autumn and Winter, and Thief Roofgrill which serves fantastic Scandinavian cuisine with a contemporary twist and you can chose from the à la carte menu in Summer. Innovative cocktails are served downstairs at Thief Bar and in the summer months you can enjoy a drink on the Thief Rooftop with amazing views.

The spa boasts a Hammam, a 12 metre pool, experience showers and a gym, as well as several saunas and five rooms for its innovative and spoiling treatments inspired by worldwide spas.

Oslo is a delightful city and the perfect size for wandering around, taking in the sights and atmosphere as you go. Home to some fantastic art galleries that shouldn't be missed - the Astrup Fearnley gallery of contemporary art and the Edvard Munch Museet to name but two.

Aker Brygge is the place to go for a great meal or drink and a fab atmosphere - restaurants and bars are set along the harbour's edge; all have extensive outdoor seating areas that are heated in the winter and open in the summer so ideal for people watching.

Take the ferry from Aker Brygge out into the fjord on a cruise; or take the subway to Frognerseteren, north of the city for some forest walks and lunch with incredible city views.

The Royal Palace is worth a visit and is central so you indulge in the fantastic shopping (shops are not open on Sundays). You can also take a tour of the Nobel Peace Central and do have a look around the Viking Ship Museum.

Oslo is a paradise for art lovers and The Thief is no different. A close link with the nearby Astrup Fearnely museum means the hotel is full of interesting pieces and as a guest you can visit the museum for free. The facilities mean there is something for everyone and include a gym, sauna and steam rooms, an indoor pool and a spa, as well as a couple of bars and roofto restaurant in the summer. A great spot for a quick stopover on your way north or a couple of nights to explore the city

Milly Walker (Staff)

The Thief is in a great spot out on the Aker Brygge peninsula with views out across the water. It is more of an adult focussed hotel and ideal for couples who have two to three nights and want to explore the city and surrounds. It is about a 15 minute walk from the main centre however there are so many great restaurants a stones throw away along the waterfront including Ling Ling by Hakkisan
