The Thief has a superb location on the island of Tjuvholmen, meaning Thief Island. Once a unpopular part of town home to thieves and criminals, Tjuvholmen is now one of the smartest areas boasting contemporary art galleries, modern accommodation complete with decked rooftops and polished restaurants, all on the water's edge overlooking the Oslofjord.
The Thief's curator has carefully selected an enviable contemporary art collection that fits perfectly in its surroundings next to the Astrup Fearnley Gallery, with whom they share some prized pieces being one of the gallery's biggest sponsors.
The 140 rooms, all have king size doubles, there are no twin options, however separate bedding can be provided and a Hollywood Twin made up. The spacious marble bathrooms have showers and/or baths and are fitted out with all the mod-cons, including Nespresso coffee machines. Each has its own small private balcony with views ranging from the surrounding architecturally-pleasing buildings, such as the Astrup Fearnley Gallery to the canals and harbour of Tjuvholmen and the fjord beyond. The rooms and suites are decorated with rich colours, sumptuous fabrics and soft furnishings from velvet cushions to Norwegian woollen rugs. The end result is a chic, decadent but cosy atmosphere and a luxurious haven to come back to after a day in the city.
There are two restaurants; Thief Foodbar which serves relaxed classics in Spring, Autumn and Winter, and Thief Roofgrill which serves fantastic Scandinavian cuisine with a contemporary twist and you can chose from the à la carte menu in Summer. Innovative cocktails are served downstairs at Thief Bar and in the summer months you can enjoy a drink on the Thief Rooftop with amazing views.
The spa boasts a Hammam, a 12 metre pool, experience showers and a gym, as well as several saunas and five rooms for its innovative and spoiling treatments inspired by worldwide spas.
