Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October but game-viewing is great year-round as there is abundant resident wildlife.

The rainy season on the Kenyan Coast is generally during May and June. So from July onward the weather is gradually getting hotter and dryer until March/April when it reaches the high 90's (over 40 degrees C). Christmas/New Year is generally considered the peak season and the weather is lovely then with constant sunshine and gentle off shore breezes. If you want clear seas for diving then make your trip after August/Sept.

Journey through the world renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, encountering some of the most astonishing wildlife on earth, with a backdrop of endless open plains. Then indulge in barefoot luxury on Kenya’s radiant coastline, Diani Beach.

  1. Fly to Nairobi

  2. Days 1-2: Nairobi

On arriving into Jomo Kenyatta International airport you’ll be met by your driver and transferred to the Tamarind Tree Hotel for your overnight stay. Catch up on some sleep after your long-haul flight, before your safari adventure begins the following morning!

Accommodation: Tamarind Tree Hotel (1 night)

  3. Days 2-5: Maasai Mara

After an early breakfast your driver will pick you up and transfer you to Wilson Airport. Feel your excitement build as you board a light aircraft to the Masai Mara. As you fly over, gaze down at the sweeping plains dotted with acacia trees, and as you descend see scatterings of giraffes and elephants ambling over the savannah. Upon arrival at the airstrip, your guide will greet you and game drive you to your home for the next 3 nights, Speke’s Camp. This authentic tented camp is positioned on a private concession bordering the main reserve and is close to the Musiara Swamp, which is teeming with wildlife.

After you have relished on a hearty lunch under the shade of an acacia tree, you will head out on your afternoon game drive. You’ll have the freedom to enjoy the Masai Mara at your own pace with your own private vehicle and guide. Watch a herd of jovial elephants playfully interacting at a waterhole. Wait in anticipation for a cheetah to begin a high-speed hunt as she prowls the savannah for prey. Feel the thundering power of the Great Migration as thousands of wildebeest cross the Mara River and have your camera ready for some incredible photos without the obstruction of other guests in your vehicle. These are some of the astonishing wildlife sightings you could encounter throughout your 3 days here.

    Accommodation: Speke's Camp (3 nights)

  4. Days 5-10: Diani

This morning after a final game drive and a leisurely breakfast at camp, you will be transferred to the airstrip in time for your flight to Diani Beach. Step off the plane and feel the tropical heat and refreshing ocean breeze as you are met by the hotel driver who will take you to Waterlovers Beach Resort. You’ll spend the next 5 nights in barefoot-beach bliss; step out on the beach and feel the unbelievably soft powdery white sand between your toes, take a dip in the azure ocean or sink into tranquillity by the pool with a cocktail in hand. Let your taste buds be tantalised by the mouth-watering cuisine at Waterlovers, which is a fusion of Mediterranean and Swahili flavours. If you’d like to venture out for the day, take a trip to the rich forests of the Shimba Hills Nature Reserve, where you may encounter forest adapted elephants or board a traditional dhow boat and enjoy sundowners in the evening sun. The choice is yours.

Accommodation: WaterLovers Beach Resort (5 nights)

  5. Fly Home

Spend your final day catching the last rays of sun on Diani Beach and enjoying a delicious beach lunch before taking your flight back to Nairobi that evening, in time for your night flight back to the UK.
